3 Congratulations and an Apology
 

Firstly, congratulations to all those recipients of honours and awards announced yesterday. Well done all of you.

Secondly, congratulations to those who wrote the citations. Over my 31 years service before Op HERRICK, I have raised only 7: and took great pride in the MBE, 2 x QCVS, 1 x MID, 1 x QCB and 2 x JCC that resulted.

I now heartily apologise to CB (you know who you are) that my judgement failed me in thinking you had merited at least a level 4 award, and that I was so inept at writing the citation that, in the eyes of those who decide, you didn't even merit a JCC.

So, I hereby congratulate you, reasonably publicly, for your achievements in Afghanistan. I will post you a copy of the citation which shows my assessment - which I stand by - along with a bottle of "Batco's Commendation" aka Krug.
