Groom Lake ICAO designate KXTA
Finally Groom Lake has a name
KXTA Area 51 designated with a new name - Air Force News | News from Afghanistan & Iraq - Air Force Times Though mildly surprised the Air Force Times published this article Would this be a first step in bringing the dark side into the light? Then again if anyone has read the excellent book Never In Anger by Anthony 'Bugs' Bendall, there is a bit whereby the author is on exchange at Nellis training 'Thud' crews for deployment to Vietnam and one of his students has a problem in the air whereby both of them landed at an outpost of Nellis and saw the A-12 Oxcart for the first time pre public announcement. Cheers |
I thought they'd moved all the aliens up to the Dugway Proving Ground in Utah.

Welcome to 2008.

Welcome to 2008 |
Ok so it's been 4 coming up to five years and no GA allowed to land there have coffee or Capuccino with the retired Red Hats / Red Eagles :) lol
What's with the name of 'Homey' sound very homey would have thought named it something like LeMay AFB :) |
So they shot Bugs and his student, right?
|
Nope neither :) just thorough interviews without coffee but Bugs had hard time convincing he was a Brit on exchange across the road but once he mentioned a certain Air Commodore based in D.C then no more was said and returned to Nellis. In the book he states that his student was released a while (days?) later and looking worse for wear.

A Brit? Britain knew about our secret spy plane? Was the student named Bond?
Hmmm wonder if I can plug KXTA into my mid course emergency alternate for V105 North? Shoot one and amble into old KXTA unannounced? |
Er, keep this quiet lads, KXTA, K for US of A, XTA for Extra-Terrestrial Arrivals...
|
Thats ok Mike, I'll wear a tin-foil hat when I land. They'll never notice me.
...hell...they won't even SEE me! |
