tansor launch???

Does the single voyager cover the Tansor requirement as I noticed it was over the north sea yesterday (racetrack pattern).

lj101 26th Nov 2012 12:25

No it doesn't. Voyager is still in the 'trials' stage.

BEagle 26th Nov 2012 12:42

Voyager is still in the 'trials' stage.
And the jury, one learns, is still very much out.....:uhoh:

D-IFF_ident 26th Nov 2012 15:48

'Trials' stage or 'Trails' stage?

If a single VC10 can cover the commitment then a single Voyager should have no problem - when, as Beagle implied, all the technical issues have been ironed out.

Technical issues....?? :\

Sorry Beags - I'm not I the know but presumably the delay has been caused by a technical issue and not, as one ppruner suggested some months ago, part of deliberate plan by MOD to defer payment to future FYs.

vascodegama 26th Nov 2012 17:50

There is more than one frame needed. The ac on the North Sea is not Tansor. That is a separate task.

Trial (Verb)

To carry out a series of tests on (a new product, procedure etc.) before marketing or implementing it.
The refuelling system was extensively trialled before being authorised to refuel our aircraft.
Maybe the USAF will help out in the interim for some TRAILS, that will be cheap

1.3VStall 26th Nov 2012 18:23

So what, exactly, is the status of Voyager? When will it get clearance to do a towline and what about trails?

We taxpayers are funding this four-funnel, ocean-going disaster and we deserve answers!:ugh:

Four funnels? For two engines? Well I'll be darned!

Scarebus - a load of poo. :E

1.3VStall 27th Nov 2012 19:51

So, come on you chaps and chapesses on 10 Sqn. What precisely is the status of Voyager, and what exactly is the prognosis for the aircraft?

air pig 27th Nov 2012 23:39

No too good at the moment, maybe a trip over the ocean again to the desert, in a west bound direction in the future?

Have other countries who have brought MRTT experienced the same teething troubles (apart from falling parts!! ) or is is it the variant that the UK have & we are trying to put square pegs into round holes?

Best Wishes

Adam

Have other countries who have brought MRTT
part of the answer's in your question. Other countries are buying theirs, the UK is not.

We didn't get any messages and Blackadder definitely did not shoot this delicious, plump-breasted pigeon......:\

I am not making excuses for anyone but it was over 30 yers ago when the VC10 conversion was carried out and that had its problem as had the Victor programme before that. Although we do not know the exact nature of the problem, could a lack of experience and expertise be at least part of the cause for the delay.

lj101 1st Dec 2012 11:32

Do you mean the manufacturer of the refuelling system and mission planning system?

Art Field 1st Dec 2012 11:42

I should perhaps have said current re the experience of AAR trialers

lj101 1st Dec 2012 12:00

They've got a couple of the best (IMO) ex AAR VC10 Captains working for them as civilians, so I would say that experience and expertise aren't the issue.
