Vulcans sixty year anniversary tour and where it isn't going..

Cannot feel like agreeing with the comments.... Scampton, Waddington etc are NOT on the list

The route for Saturday's tour has been posted up.
From the VTTS website.
Quote:
This Saturday afternoon 29th September, providing weather conditions and aircraft serviceability allow, XH558 will take off on a 3-hour sortie to commemorate Sixty Glorious Years of the Avro Vulcan as she makes a tour of various airports near to sites that played a significant part in their development or service life.
The route

1. Doncaster
- Bitteswell
2. Coventry Airport
3. Birmingham Airport
4. RAF Cosford
5. Gloucester (Staverton)
- Cheltenham
6. Filton
7. Cardiff Airport
8. St. Athan
9. Ross-on-Wye (Memorial)
10. RAF Halton

So, no Woodford, Farnborough, Waddington, Scampton, Bruntingthorpe; places I would thought had a larger claim to having a more significant role than some mentioned above.
Anyway, there you have it.

and of course A&A.E.E

NutLoose 26th Sep 2012 20:42

Yep, strange, very strange, Lincolnshire which was the home of the Vulcan does not appear to even get a look in...

skydiver69 26th Sep 2012 21:21

Where do their biggest doners live?

OafOrfUxAche 26th Sep 2012 21:24

Woodford surely is the most heinous omission? Heathrow I can understand...

Beancountercymru 26th Sep 2012 21:36

Where do their biggest doners live?

In the kebab shop?

RumPunch 27th Sep 2012 00:20

RAF Halton..... ? this is a joke I hope

knarfw 27th Sep 2012 01:02

Obviously impossible but would love to see her in the skies over Goose Bay again.

NutLoose 27th Sep 2012 08:36

Halton would be because most of the Engineers of the time would have gone through there I suppose, but that then says why no Cranners.

Linedog 27th Sep 2012 08:44

What about Chadderton where she was built?

Shaggy Sheep Driver 27th Sep 2012 19:20

Big bits of her were built at Chadderton, but they were assembled at Woodford into aeroplanes and then flown for the first time (every one of 'em). But the tour doesn't go there, the birthplace of the Vulcan.

NutLoose 27th Sep 2012 19:58

It was there the other week though.... Except they didn't tell anyone till after..

Vulcans landed on RAF Halton's grass runway on no less than 3 seperate occasions - quite an achievement when you consider it's length. Also, John "Cat's Eyes" Cunningham as DH's Chf Test Pilot flew in a couple of Comets.

Here's a picture of 2 of the 3 Vulcans at Halton for Apprentice Trg...

And this is the 3rd aircraft - it must have made a right racket during engine ground runs for the local population! The sound of freedom, though...:ok:

Better, still it looks like East Mids will get a look in again, slight stagger could do Derby for RR and Bruntingthorpe for retirement and restoration.
