Hval, head down to the side of the Clyde, it lives near to the SECC and from the other side of the water you should get some lovely shots, well lit from your back. :8
Back on topic though: A68 at A697 junction, 1310 (approx) today, who was driving the Albert that scared the life out my wife??? She says can you please do it again, as frequently as you like, but preferrably when the kids are back from school so that they can see it. From me, the jealous husband....please do it again why I am back from work!! Fly safe |
low flying
Come on chaps - you either follow the tree line heading west about 2 miles north of me or turn in south using Coquet Island as an IP. Feel free to come closer (55.4558, -1.6425). CB :ok:

Tick VG
Many thanks to the pair of GR 4s that overflew my place (55:45:58, -1:64:25) at 1350L today - especially the No 2. Feel free to come back at any time. CB:ok:

"Eye witness"
More breathy and excitable reportage here, or at least the eye-witness account is. I particularly like the quote
something from a war zone diving towards our house |
Apache
Ta v much to the two Apaches messing about on the upper reaches of the Western Cleddau this pm.
Must have been doing circuits around our house for a couple of hours at least. Dunno what's going on.....still here now flying about with fantastic new moon as a background |
The gentleman across the road was often outside working on his lovely Austin Seven Tourer, and I used to go and watch. One week he had his neck in plaster. Concerned about this, I asked how it had happened. Oh, he said, I was looping the Bulldog at Farnborough and the engine cut. Of course this was the Bristol Bulldog the Filton apprentices had restored. I think the test pilot's name was Williamson. I witnessed that crash in 1964 and have a photo somewhere of the aftermath when they were lifting the wreckage off the airfield. I will try to find it, Regards, Bob |
Apologies to all for the thread resurrection but good job this morning Chinook guys (09-15) - much appreciated :ok:
|
Big thanks to whoever just paid us a "visit" at c 17:30 :D :D
Son who's in the Air Cadets was very impressed as was I ok: Come back soon :ok: |
Wokkafans, You were definitely spoilt today by the number of Chinooks. Did you see the yellow Boeing Stearman as well?
I was walking around Frensham Little Pond late this afternoon with an elderly friend who is nearly blind. He's an ex-RAF national serviceman and aeroplane fanatic, so the sound of anything interesting going over enough to lift his spirits. He even rushed to the door for an S-76 going over later. |
Indeed I did - I've seen it a few times and think it runs out of the nearby Wishanger Farm strip.
Perhaps it's a rebuild of this aircraft? https://www.gov.uk/aaib-reports/boei...-21-april-1996 The Wishanger Strip has had a fair few incidents - the one in the link below crashed in the woodland at the back of our house trying to land. I can't see it being rebuilt - a very lucky guy indeed. https://assets.digital.cabinet-offic...DEWY_01-15.pdf http://www.pprune.org/rotorheads/545...rt-surrey.html We also had the anniversary Chinook nearby today and a nice fast and low Apache last week. Long may it continue :ok: |
Wokkafans,
The Stearman you saw is most likely to be G-AZLE which operates out of a private strip near to Tongham if the weather is favourable. Why not move a mile or so to the north? You would then be able to see the Odiham Chinooks "bashing the circuit" all day, plus the occasional airliner into Lasham and of course the executives into/out of Farnborough. Sadly, it's all a shadow of the days when Odiham flew a squadron of Javelins on night flying sorties, DanAir Ambassadors whispered into Lasham for maintenance and Farnboro's RAE fleet did whatever they wanted to.... |
FP - thanks for the info on the Stearman :ok:
We are actually pretty lucky here as we get a lot transiting by/over us, mainly Chinooks, Apache, Lynx, Sea King, & Griffin. There also used to be a lot of night flying near Fish Pond at Wishanger but this has been a bit quiet of late Besides the mil activity there's also a fair amount of airshow traffic transiting N-S so a real variety from WW1 vintage to recent stuff. Very rare to see any FJ's though :( BTW was the bagger Sea King over Frensham Large Pond a few weeks ago preparing for the Navy's relocation from Portsmouth to the sailing clubhouse. :E |
Lovely low and noisy pass by the Reds today transiting to Goodwood or Alfold :ok:
|
And I have had the 75% scale Mosquito over twice in the last 10 days
|
Wokkafans
Red Arrows went to Goodwood today, I can currently see them out the window of the office at work parked up neatly at Farnborough Airport
|
Is this thread only for .uk peeps or might one make a request from another country?

Armed Forces Day
Armed Forces Day tomorrow.
Focal point Stoke Park, Guildford. Plently cleared into TVAA. Also Goodwood FoS. |
Presumably something to do with the Goodwood" Festival of Speed" due soon, but delighted to her the noise of RR Merlins overhead in West Susses recently
|
Nice to have a low pass by a C-17 this morning ~8-50am.
Looked like he was heading to Odiham presumably with kit from the recent US exercise? Update: My suspicion was correct https://twitter.com/StnCdrOdiham/sta...06440471707648 |
It seems not everybody appreciates being overflown by low flying aircraft.
UPDATE: Chinook on training exercise sparks hundreds of calls (From Bournemouth Echo) I have been hearing Chinooks flying around for several days but not particularly low (I wish) but one did fly over my house in the dark last night. They always sound more sinister in the dark. |
