New Iranian drone missile carrier

More willy waving on the FARS website today
Though this looks interesting
Fars News Agency :: IRGC Announces Production of Drone with Missile Capability

"Speaking at a press conference here in Tehran on Sunday, Jafari pointed to Iran's latest achievements in area of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) production, and stated, "Shahed 129 drone presents the IRGC's latest advancement in this field. With its 24-hour-long non-stop flight capability, the drone can accomplish good missions in reconnaissance and combat fields."
The commander added that Shahed 129 can hit and destroy targets from a far distance with its Sadid (Iron-Strong) missiles. "

Does this look like it can fly for 24 hours with those lumps attached?

I just love hyperbole! Their press releases are worth collecting. :ok:

Mike
That looks decidedly like a US drone and a Hellfire missile
and nothing like the Iranian one.

mike-wsm 16th Sep 2012 22:10

Well spotted, Predator of course. They're all using stock images. But Iran definitely has some endurance drones.

500N 16th Sep 2012 22:14

Agree on all counts :ok:

Mike

With these wankers, I like to see it flying and firing - AND hitting the damn target.

Getting a drone to fly once and firing a missile can be done, getting it
to actually hit a target at long range I think would probably take a bit of doing.

It's very easy to create blow up missiles / dummies. After all, the Brits, US and Russia have been doing it for years !!!:O

And anyone can google up an image:O

500N

I could tell you tales of missiles.....but only after I shot you.

jamesdevice 17th Sep 2012 08:10

So they used a photo from the 2009 procession for yesterdays press release.
It all seems very credible doesn't it???!!!

jamesdevice 17th Sep 2012 09:08

A couple of pictures of the missiles (attached to what looks like a dummy of an Iranian attack helicopter) have turned up on a Pakistani military forum

That pic is a Shahed 285 helicopter, not to be confused with the reported Shahed 129 drone.

jamesdevice 17th Sep 2012 09:28

true - but it carries the Sadid missiles reportedly carried by the drone

mike-wsm 17th Sep 2012 09:54

Sorry, yes, they look like TOW missiles, as purchased by Iran for its AH-1J helicopters.

Possibly copied by Sadid Industries.

Edit

Er, need a rethink on that, TOW not appropriate for drone....

....more like Hellfire as seen being fired from Predator above.

All of which takes us straight back to my Post at # 8

Seems to be one hell of a lot of Bodgying going on by the Iranians.

As I said in another thread about the second Chinese Stealth plane,
the Chinese do it (PR, Propoganda) so much better !!!

AND, at least the Chinese picture scoops show the damn things
working or flying !!!

"wankers" love it, Heath Robinson at its best. We could have knocked up better on nights in the Role bay!!

:ok:

GreenKnight121 17th Sep 2012 10:42

That Shahed 285 sure looks a lot like a Bell JetRanger (OH-58) with a bunch of cosmetic paneling applied... much like Blue Thunder:

Is one of these, modified with bolt-on parts and a canopy patterned after the AH-64 Apache.

The drone in the original post looks to be Beechcraft BQM-126 based, with altered empennage. The Karrar is BQM-126 with relocated engine.

Nothing wrong with using existing designs, it slashes the r+d budget and gets working hardware into operation.

Any comments on the funny canard in the 2009 parade?

Translation Corner:
Heath Robinson - Rube Goldberg
W....r - anyone who is not a mil pilot

Mike

Re Beechcraft BQM-126, I see what you mean.

I might go and have a look at youtube to see if video exists
of any of these actually flying.
