My vote also.

Good luck to all those who serve and keep safe all those in harms way.

As a former RAF and TA mate, stay safe, be VERY, VERY proud, and to all the parents, wives, husbands, partners and children, bless you for your support of your loved ones

Bump.

It's been nice to see the Armed Forces Day flag being flown from some churches and public buildings this week.

I spent the day at a very large atheletics comp for primary pupils (1200+) at Cardiff. Archbishop George Stack opened events, but not before asking for a moment of silent prayer for the armed forces and their families. He referred to their daily heroism. There was not a sound. Nice touch, I thought, no fence sitting with him.

CG.

Flew my flags on the east and west wings.

muttywhitedog 30th Jun 2012 21:16

Not seen a single flag. With the exception of Crown Carveries, nor was anything on offer to me from businesses or organisations to say "Thanks".

Disappointed.

Flying the flag...

Sadly, left "Base Hangar View" on Friday and forgot to hang out my Armed Forces Day flag from the battlements for the first time in several years.

What hope is there if those who served can't even remember to advertise the 2nd most important day in the forces calendar?

Sorry.......

Visiting family up north, have to say you would have been hard pressed to know that the Forces existed where my family live. What makes that even more disappointing is that it is home to a former infantry barracks, the former Pay Corps HQ and currently home to a TA unit and a Regt museum.

That said, on an individual level, I think there is still a degree of respect and understanding from the sections of society who think there is more to life than benefits, bingo and Greggs Bakery and I had several long chats with family friends who I hadn't seen for a long time but were keen to learn about what we are up to these days. Unfortunately that seems to be concentrated in the older sections of society; once we draw down from Afghanistan and the older generation start to disappear, I can see many of the younger generation thinking that the Battle of Waterloo is just the name of a pub.

Up North, in Cleethorpes, well away from any regular military units they manage a parade, small flying display, a ceremony, flags flyingetc.

In Sleaford today they had a parade etc.

For everyone, past and present. Keep doing the great job that you should be so proud of. To you all!!

I've just returned from a det. to the States and forgot all about this. I wondered about all the uniforms on display at Kings Cross on Saturday.

Explains why a Spitfire, with wings detached and strapped to body sides, was being towed through Lancaster by a land rover toward the motorway yesterday evening. Presumably used for a static display somewhere. At least I HOPE it was a non-flying replica...
