Op Deny Summer holiday

All been told today to take out extra cancellation insurance for any summer holidays booked due to Olympic duties. i don't think we will be the last!!

MATELO 28th Feb 2012 20:06

I was planning on that when I was still 5 years ago.

Shouldn't be a surprise to anybody.

alfred_the_great 28th Feb 2012 21:07

Just deploy to the ME or Afg. Simple.

Grimweasel 28th Feb 2012 22:37

Sod that - After the Jun 12 announcement I hope to be on resettlement! ;-)

Scuttled 28th Feb 2012 22:59

Ummm. The redundancy announcement fella, do keep up!

Jayand 29th Feb 2012 11:07

Not sure resettlement will save you.

BEagle 29th Feb 2012 12:14

Just to add to the fun, I see Len McCluskey has been muttering about strike action and civil disobedience during this osbscene self indulgent farce of the Olympics.... That soon had the politicos all squealing with shocked horror.

Interesting piece on BBC this morning about the exercise at Waddington. Some sniper in a helicopter making gestures at a light aircraft approaching exercise 'Olympic airspace'. But the Tutor was sitting just above cloud - so how would that work if he'd just popped down into cloud? Or at night??

So, divert the overstretched UK armed forces from their normal activities and call out the reservists just for some 3-week sport-Billy session in London? That'll do wonders for morale....

I can well understand any employer who questions the need to release reservists to act as cheap labour for Boris. Another war might be one thing, but for the Olympics??

dctyke 29th Feb 2012 12:35

At least we can sleep easy that the police will be on overtime and for those drafted in, good accomodation food and allowances!

SPIT 29th Feb 2012 16:30

Hi
According to the BBC (who we all know is always right and accurate????) as a last measure an a/c may be shot down ?? . Who will accept responsibility if it comes down on civilians ???.:{:{:{

NutherA2 29th Feb 2012 17:20

An entertaining quotable quote from a lady one star at Waddington on today’s lunchtime news; she announced with some pride that the RAF is in business 24/7 for 365 days a year. Today being the 29th Feb, does anyone know yet whether a date has been chosen yet for all of you still in the service not to have to go to work?

C130 Techie 29th Feb 2012 19:42

Right or wrong, this certainly shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone as it has been topic of conversation since at least last summer. I briefed my guys and girls last September that it would be prudent to ensure that any holiday bookings were properly insured.

Not sure resettlement will save you
I think you will find that resettlement is a right and basically untouchable.

Tankertrashnav 29th Feb 2012 21:36

When I was serving there was no such time as 2400, so we reckoned that the 2 minutes between 2359 and 0001 were ours to do with as we wished.

Now the poor sods still serving dont even have that luxury :(

BEags,

I may loathe what you say, but, by God, I'll defend your right to say it.

F4 Phase 3 VID

Ours is not to wonder why...

Is it for employers to decide the validity of the reason for call up?

OK, I can't keep this up. You're right as ever, BEags. It really is all pants! Maybe another, better call on our war-fighters might turn up by then. So what happens then? We can't go into Iran/Syria/Otherplace, we're fully committed to Op Jockstrap!!

:ok:

500N 29th Feb 2012 21:56

Talking about your Olympics, on our news the other day, a British Olympic organising person stood their and with a straight face, spoke for a minute saying everything to do with the Olympics, the stadiums, facilities etc were on or before time and on or under budget.

Will be the first one for a while that has been like that !

.. not so sure. Terminal leave yes, but resettlement??

A while ago (and we've hardly become more "user-friendly" since!) one of my troops had resettlement cancelled for the Firemen's strike .....:(

OldnDaft 1st Mar 2012 07:36

And resettlement can be taken after the discharge date!!

I saw this also and chuckled as I wondered how a Puma would manage to keep up with some of the spanky new plastic GA stuff such as a Glasair which will cruise at 250mph+. Even my Rag and Tube pocket rocket will hit 200mph S&L....

Are things really that stretched we cant unleash a hawk or two for this sort of stuff?!?!

Blue Bottle 1st Mar 2012 09:59

A Hawk with a sniper in, now that would be good to see...

Courtney Mil 1st Mar 2012 10:03

Hawk? Again -

so how would that work if he'd just popped down into cloud? Or at night??
