The Millies............ hmmmmmm

When I heard Cameron come on and extoll the Qualities of the Company of HMS Liverpool, one was immediately drawn back to his speech on the Carrier force and the benefits of the Harrier before he promptly shafted them both and one thought, yep another one for scrapping and another attempt to deflect from it A

And sure enough

Final Homecoming for HMS Liverpool | Demotix.com

one cannot feel saddened for both the crew and the fact that such an intergrated ship and crew is lost.

But dusty room tonight, must clean harder.

November4 21st Dec 2011 21:30

Likewise - SW(thinks she)MBO is in a telling off for letting the dust build up in the room....

Great recognition for the Forces and from my FB friends comments - the programme is hitting the target in raising awarenes of what true heroes are... as Lawrence Dallaglio commented...not sports "heroes"

NutLoose 21st Dec 2011 21:32

Hats off to all involved tonight, BUT even more praise to those who never get a mention....... YOU ARE ALL HEROES in my eyes, even if you do not get such a mention....

I must admit I would never even consider buying the Sun, but they do support the troops no matter what.......... I might be getting old in how the most of the Military would view me today, but i still remember their support for the troops in NI...... your mind never ages, your body just struggles to keep up...

Just from reading, I would agree that it shows off the true heroes.

I was surprised with the negative comments on the other millies thread about the Sun and the whole thing (with the exception of the BAE banner advert).

I like the fact that Beckham seems to enjoy supporting the Armed forces.

One question
Why being a formal do do William and Harry not wear miniature medals
- or uniforms for that matter although I understand that maybe they want the others to shine and not them.

Any comments ?

I tend to agree with you Nut, especially after seeing our PM visiting our troops in Afghanistan, on the TV, last night. Stroking the nose of a GR4, easily chatting with its air and groundcrew, knowingly that on the rest of his watch he'll probably dispose of the lot. Best of the present bunch of very shallow politicians, but in himself, very, very shallow. God help you all.

NutLoose 21st Dec 2011 22:05

I do not want to detract from the stunning work those in todays forces do, the military is always in a total state of flux, for example the medical recovery care was nowhere near or as highly skilled in my time as that in existance today...... Kudos to them ALL :D:D:D

AS SAID i hold what they do in awe, regardless of rank, trade or danger in theater.

However Cameron if he has really bad news to deliver that will reflect on him, he seems to foist it on the (p)(m)uppet he has as a deputy....

Unkind. In it's day it was the best!. But I appreciate what you're saying.

There was a programme a couple of weeks ago about the medical advances since the wars started and some one said that they were now saving people who would have died just 5 years ago

The bird should be Blue though.

500N 21st Dec 2011 22:35

I do not mean it in that respect, in all services it is sadly driven by demand, hence in the 70's... 80's etc one only has to look at the sad demise of the Military hospitals....
During the periods when the UK was not at war these services would be underfunded, the Falklands would have helped the funding, but it is only since Iraq and Afghanistan that money, resources and technology have been poured into this part of the Military budget, sadly belatedly for the Military hospitals that were specifically designed and staffed to cater to the needs of the Military.

Do they? Do they indeed? You're probably right, the sun would never publish stich up stories would they....
