RN Sea King over Salford.

Witnessed a RN Sea King flying over Salford, Greater Manchester on Monday around mid-day. Flying fairly low near the University. Any SAR crews know why it was round this neck of the woods?

Cheers,
CR!

No inside information but believe it was taking Blue Peter presenters to their new studio in media city. Monday was the first program from manchester.

Was it a Junglie or the SAR flight with the red bits? :-)

ChristianR354 28th Sep 2011 16:38

Definitely SAR, it had the red bits on it with some grey! :ok:

Do us all a favour and read the description of the forum please:

'Military Aircrew - A forum for the professionals who fly the non-civilian hardware, and the backroom boys and girls without whom nothing would leave the ground. Army, Navy and Airforces of the World, all equally welcome here.'

'Spectators Balcony (Spotters Corner) - If you're not a professional pilot but want to discuss issues about the job, this is the best place to loiter. You won't be moved on by 'security' and there'll be plenty of experts to answer any questions.'

Are sightings of UK military A/C away from an aerodrome now so rare that we have to comment on every one of them?

I saw a formation of 2 Sea King MK2As over Emborough today. Was it aid to the Civil Authority tracking pikeies taking stolen metal to Kingy's scrap yard?

I was walking to the Lowry Outlet Mall near there to get lunch. Didn't see or hear it land or see anyone get off, but it was red and gray and marked RNAF I'm certain. Heard it throttle up ready for departure, lift up and watched it depart to the north.

Fantasitic sight to see in the middle of residential / business areas :-)

ChristianR354 28th Sep 2011 23:20

Wasn't aware of the 'Spotters Balcony' forum, I'll bare that in mind for future reference then. Sorry if it caused you any problems Darwinism!

But to the others who gave the information as to why it was in the area I thank you! Was nice to see a Sea King round here, feel free to drop in again sometime!

CR!

If Sharkey could land a Sea Harrier at Pebble Mill in lieu of the RAF's refusal of a GR3, a Sea King at Salford Quay musty have been small fry

Hopefully one of those overpaid BBC reporters.
Specifically Nick Knowles. That tw@t is on over £300K of our money!

Busy time in Mankland. As we landed for a job in the city centre, a chinook was landing at the infirmary. Was there a party on last night??

Trim Stab 29th Sep 2011 10:57

Two chinooks flew over my house in south of France this morning on VFR route to Cannes. I'm afraid my spotting skills aren't up to recognising whether they were RAF or not. I suppose they could have been Spanish or Italian?

Kreuger flap 29th Sep 2011 11:06

Who cares where they were from. Look at this fine shot of Helen Skelton instead.
