Every 10-20 years airships pop up again - and then die another lingering death.............. :(

That's because it can't carry anything. Every advert I see for it says it can carry ten tonnes. That's paltry copmpared to an ordinary scheduled passenger aeroplane and even more so for a dedicated freighter.

Why will it carry hydrogen; I would have thought that would be too dangerous; surely helium is the gas used.

While it may carry less than an airliner at the moment it isnt in competition with airliners…and it can carry 10 tonnes at a tenth of the cost of another ten tonne transporter…

And Helium is indeed the gas used.

looks like a stick to hold the model in the air.

So far it has carried bugger all, and looks unlikely ever to do so.

They should get really innovative and go for maximum lift = pure vacuum..... An interesting airship was the U.S. metal clad ZMC-2 of 1929, the hull was rigid and made of alclad aluminum, which was developed by Alcoa especially for the airship. The hull material was .0095" thick.

The link says it can carry fifty tonnes. I hope that's not just batteries.
They're developing an electric version.

That was my allusion a few posts above. If it's electric, and if it's able to carry 50 tons, and if it's able to carry batteries, and if it's huge and round, then surely we have found an ideal vehicle for green hydrogen tanks for FCEV power at last!

Is it just me, or do the Airlanders in the video look a lot like flying pigs?

edit - I see ninthace beat me to it!
