Sentry - Mail on Sunday, Live Mag

Able to spot enemy aircraft 300 miles away, the Sentry plane is Britain's eye in the sky | Mail Online

One of the more balanced and informed reports from the none-specialist press. Shame about the dullard comments from some of the MoS readership.

TP...You must be gutted! JC...The same. Of course there are hosties...Thats the primary roles of the AT's isn't it?

inaccurate reporting as per norm, total garbage

Spit, Sluf.

Care to share which bit of the article is complete garbage. Seems like a well researched article to me. Some bits are souped up for the public but overall fairly good really.

Which bit of the article is complete garbage?
Well, Mossie's bit about Tennis Balls and "state of the art" for starters!

He should know better as RADAR is not his specialisation - Driver Airframe is! AN/APY-2 uses doppler and fast-fourier techniques - hardly "ping-pong divide by 2"!!! The RADAR is good but it is still 1970s technology that had a mid-life (RSIP) upgrade in the 90s. If you want state of the art for AEW&C then look at NG's MESA RADAR on Wedgetail or some of the ELTA RADAR equipped AEW&C aircraft.

This is just a shameless plug and appeal to the Public to make sure we don't lose Sentry like we did with ASTOR and our replacement MPA in SDSR. That said, losing Sentry would be a complete disaster for all 3 services.

PS. Other garbage: exercises over the Falklands are hardly a common occurence!

"You must be gutted! JC...The same"

Never forget your roots....."Once an Apprentice, allways an Apprentice"......therefore, not at all old chap!

Was a relatively balanced article...... Just couldn't work out whether it was about the Sentry or Wg Cdr Moss.

Once ‘on station’, Wg Cdr Moss puts the Sentry into a racetrack-type path.

As he does before every flight he commands, Wg Cdr Moss takes a few minutes to walk around the aircraft and perform final visual checks

‘It’s not so much fly-by-wire as fly-by-piano-wire,’ jokes Wg Cdr Moss.

‘Radar is relatively simple technology,’ says Wg Cdr Moss.
To list but a few.....
