Typhoon Low Level Afterburner Hullabaloo
Has there been a Typhoon low level afterburner hullabaloo, anyone? Something about it not looking good for the RAF.
Personally, I can't think of anything better to hear, especially in the valleys. It's probably 'not allowed'. |
What is 'afterburner'? Is it something like reheat?

Are you referring to the Daily Mail story back in February?

Looking at the first picture, it appears that the pilot is reaching for a pint ... :E

Just in case anyone asks about the unusual looking helmet?

Don't we all lament the passing of "air correspondents" from the newspapers.
Gone are the likes of Air Commodore E M Donaldson of the Daily Telegraph, and "naval correspondent" Captain Norman Todd, now replaced by total ignoramuses who profess knowledge but know f**k all. Another example of "dumbing-down"......and a poor reflection of the society we live in today. :(:(:( MB |
And you really must stop watching Skynews Bob, its not good for yer telly.
Ah the Good Ol Days, chat to OC Ops in the bar for 20 minutes till he finally asks:"Sorry, I didn't catch our name" then give him one of the Russian Air Attache's business cards. (Thanks Nikolai).:) Reverse catch, courtesy of Spot and CJ, OC Chiv was/is not clled 'arry (when that one was first coming into fashion).:) |
As an ex “Sooty”, could anybody tell me why, in the second picture, the LH burner looks just a touch weaker that the RH. Is it slightly less throttle or is it a “weak reheat curve” similar to a MECU setup on the Tonka?
Actually I got that wrong. I meant the RH burner weaker than the LH burner:ugh::ugh: Obviously a senile moment when I looked at the pic |
Hi SRENNAPS,
Might the reheats look different because its being viewed through a tree, not in focus because of the focal length of the lens maybe?? Nice Mach Diamonds though eh ??:ok: regards H (Also and ex-Sooty) |

Madbob - Takes me back to the old days, and the amazing comedy act that was Donaldson and Donne (Michael, of the FT).
While Teddy's mannerisms always put me in mind of Basil Brush, Donne was a booming-voiced 6-foot-5 who could have starred as the butler in any Hammer film of the era. Favourite Teddy story, told (typically) against himself... Donaldson mooring his boat on the Hamble, ties up alongside other boat. Sociable chap that he is, he's soon talking to the neighbour, who turns out to be a traveller in aluminium tubing for BOAC. No last names have been exchanged, but the BOAC four-ringer finally says: "You seem to know a lot about aviation". "Oh, I work for the Daily Telegraph", says Teddy. The other guy leans forward, drops his voice into a confidential tone.. "Really? Do you know that c**t Donaldson?" |

'It means the end of the dogfight,' leading pilot Mark Bowman told The Sun. 'Traditionally you have to get behind an aircraft to lock on. With this, I steer the weapons with my head.' Now I flew a fair bit and the last aircraft I flew in had the not so unique ability to lock aircraft in the head sector. So is this dumbed down for the readers or..... |
