CRLCRL - Lower your standards to lessen the impact!

Any truth in the rumour that Stns who are about to enter CRL are being directed to lower the standards across the 3 messes to soften the blow of CRL arriving; thus reducing the public whinging. Smaller portion charges, lreduced choice of condiments and a lack of attention to detail are all allegedly being suggested by Catering Ops at Air Command to lessen the clear difference between CRL and the remaining Service Chefs and Stewards.

If its true then its shameful.........No self respecting steward or Chef would tolerate this and their high standards should tremain to show the stark contrast between what we had and will become the norm.

Anyone in Catering Ops care to clarify? Dont mess with my Mess :=

If you really need to experience the lowest standard of CRL try the Sgt's Mess at Halton - utterly sh:mad:te!!. Makes courses there very expensive when you have to eat out at lunchtime and dinner...

CamelSpyder thankfully Pegs is still there :) Halton is without doubt the poorest form of dining I have ever had the luxury of eating

And CRL is..?

Green Flash 9th Feb 2011 22:46

So that's what CRL is!

Ahh - that dreadful word...CRL is an integrated solution. And no it's not. Some of the more high-brow readers here will recall the 'Solutions' column in Private Eye. This would be primus inter pares amongst the guilty. CRL is a cop-out, trying to shift repsonsibility and divest in activities that are deemed to be 'non-core'. Feeding and housing our people is a core activity of HM Forces. And yes, the Gp Capt who led the progenitor of this programme did get promoted and did get a gong.

Yes, and I have 'dined' at Halton recently, and I can confirm it was........sh:mad:te. I also lived for 6 months perdition in an Army mess run by this same company and their activities led to an MDP fraud investigation (eg charging for Linen changing, charging for use of the public supplied washing machines, not providing weekend messing...but billing both the individual and the authority for the privalege to do so). An accounting error, apparently.

And we wonder why PAYD has become known as Catering Retail and Pleisure

And we talk about Ethos, Heritage and the Military Covenant....

Experience of 3 sites operating this and all pretty much as described above. Anyone attend the DiN at Henlow where the (Guest) Boss of the New Contractor declared the food so bad there would be no charge?

Meal times brought forward or reduced (especially at weekends) just to save staff costs (who the hell signed-up to a contract where 7:30 for 8 meant over-time for the staff?).

At Henlow, we were also informed that, in due course, Mess 'Public' Property would become the property of the contractor. Couldn't believe it myself, but several in the room were adamant. Anyone here confirm this?

Was it 3 or 4 of the High Wycombe Offrs' Mess Chefs that left during the first week of PAYD?

CRL

And these contractors will of course be the guys that travel from the OM etc to assorted tented venues in parts of the globe not on the Thomas Cook routes, and work their magic to provide excellent fare for their "guests" - thought not.

When did mail, MEALS, and money dissappear from the agenda?

Rather liked the simple days when the mess was told (again) that those not living-in were taking tea and toast without completing the required chit - small levy was raised - most were guilty - no worries!!

And, if the boss looks that happy, what hope for the other poor b.....s?
