The Sun 'Millies' 2010
I know its the Sun and all a bit chad, but well done to Chomper and all the other outstanding individuals and units who won awards last night. Clearly there are many many others out there who deserve recognition, but most of those award winners last night represent the others in some form or another.

PS - A huge 'well done' to Mr Denny Wise who won the award for 'Support to the Armed Forces'. A quiet unassuming man who works very hard, with little publicity, to help look after our kids if the worst happens.
The entertainer, 63, set up the Forces Children's Trust after a pal lost her son, himself a father, in Iraq. Denny arranges days out, holidays and even gets school kit for the kids he calls "little heroes". A very worthwhile charity (amongst many others!) Forces Childrens Trust - Home |
Although the event was held last night at the IWM, its not shown until tomorrow night on ITV.
Any well deserved recognition is good to see, but it might be better left until we can all see it for ourselves? I agree though, it might be the Sun but anything that shines a light on the service men and women doing their bit can only be a good thing. |

Good dit about Ian Fortune on the prog... Good work. Was he flying single pilot? Who was in the LHS? Was it one of the crewmen or maybe one of the Medics?

No....sorry, thats the first time I have seen the footage... Just wondered why he didn't hand control to the LHS? Do you not do that ? whats the normal procedure for handing over control? We tend to use the positive method... "You have control"... "I have control"... Do the RAF use a similar process?

Yes...But this evening I saw the film footage which was filmed at the same time of the incident...I haven't seen that footage before....and I found it very interesting that whilst the cameraman was filming the sortie, the Left Hand seat didn't take control....

Watching it on the box at the moment - excellent. Nice bit about Bomber Command by Steven Fry , with a lot of bomber guys on stage afterwards. An appearance by Anne Widdecombe who thankfully resisted the temptation to dance! Presentation style a bit naff, but I feel churlish mentioning it.

Yeah it is a bit naff but the stars of the show are the boys and not those 2 muppets.... (apart from Mylene, who gets my vote)

I am watching this and have tears in my eyes.... humbled is the only word I can think of and Clarkson is right .... we have a duty to look after the injured for the rest of their lives.
It’s very easy to get caught up in the MOD budget and this is a great reminder of what happens at the coal face. |
We are all truly humbled by these guys. Most of us, even those who work day-in-day-out on HERRICK, can only pray that we'd be anything close to what these guys have been in the most incredible circumstances.
Here's to all those not mentioned but equally deserving. :ok: SWBMO had it in at nutshell - "they're all about the team, all of them". Says it all really.:D |
Vecvechookattack, (see link) the whole series which I found engrossing was on Discovery and being on that it will no doubt repeat itself over and over, the episode in question was the very first one, details and clips are below, Not a huge fan of Mr Brewer, but credit where credit is due, he (and his film crew) put themselves in harms way to bring us the series and put across the dangers you guys are in today, the Chinook episode it showed at the end of the filming how much it had got to him. So Kudos to him for doing it. As for the Millies.... what can one say, but one is truly humbled, my hat off to one and all, both shown and not, some of the most important words I felt said by any of the presenters were those of Jeremy Clarkson in saying that let us not fail in supporting all of these guys by what ever means needed, financial or otherwise. What a great way to honour the guys and girls...thankyou to all those involved. Dear Mr Fortune, well done fella, but forget ye not that it's not just the Wokka in harms way and they too will move heaven and earth to get to the guys, no matter what.
