Joyride at Akrotiri
|
And the connection with military aircrew is tenuous at best.
I liked this bit though: It is understood that station commander Group Captain John Bessell will be spoken to as part of the inquiry, to see if he can assist with any information. |
IIRC there used to be a lot of joyriding every APC..... is TPMH still open?
|
LE, indeed it is, just.
|
Former station commander Group Captain Bessell.
He left. |
Got to love the tabliods for getting it wrong again must be a slow news day
|
Flap, do tell. Was it hijinks or lojinks?
|
Absolutely no idea.
That's not even the same vehicle I saw. (same colour though) |
JB - nice wife. (.... and that is truly meant as a compliment). :)
|
Pah!
Not a patch on the Crewman joyride on (and off) the main runway at Odius some years ago........... |
And the connection with military aircrew is tenuous at best. I hope that the £40K repair bill came out of the drivers' pocket, and not mine as a taxpayer. |
I would guess that the CO of Akrotiri is Military Aircrew? |
What happened to the "rule" that CO's of bases with flying Sqns had to be able to fly all of the aircraft on his base?
Or do they not have helicopters at Akrotiri any more? |
Previous and current Stn Cdr are of the Logistics fraternity and no they don't need to be ex pilots or navs to be Stn Cdr on a unit with flying aircraft anymore, My opinion is that they tend to be from a branch that has the most relevance to the main output of the Stn e.g Boulmer a Fighter controller; Wittering a Loggie, Akrotiri a Loggie. That is of course only an educated guess.
As for the Vehicle it was not being driven by anyone in a blue suit. RAF Akrotiri is a joint unit. |
And the connection with military aircrew is tenuous at best.
Sorry PN, I shouldn't have started it. Windows Office for a tenner is more relevant I guess! :ugh: |
tyke, not at all.
But Office for a tenner is more relevant :) But at least your starter was a pleasant diversion, especially as th emilitary aircrew connection seems even more tenuous - RAF and freight but not people. I shall ask Miss PN :) |
Errrr...
"Airmen have allegedly crashed a £1.5 million Warthog troop carrier heading for the Afghan frontline while on a joyride, it has emerged." ....didn't they understand that Cyprus is an island and they never would have made it to Afghanistan in any event...they don't float do they? |
they don't float do they? Amphibious (I guess just as amphibious as the BV206, which means cannot fight a 3kt current..... :) ) |
It couldn't be very strong if £40K worth of damage was caused on a joyride, what would it cost to repair if it came across an RPG or IED in somewhere sandy?
|
In my day they made do with £500 Standard Vanguard estates.
