Does anyone else find this slightly tacky
The double side A4 advertising blurb fell out of a Magazine today. Help for Heroes and the Danbury Mint, advert was full of Union Jacks, covered with the Help for Heroes logo etc
The Help for Heroes Steel Bracelet "Forged from high-quality stainless steel, this handsome linked bracelet has a distinctive two-tone finish. Alternate links are plated in real 18ct gold. The stainless steel links are laser-etched with the HELP for HEROES symbol and flanked by links displaying the Union Flag and colours representing the Tri-Services: blue for the Navy, red for the Army and sky blue for the Royal Air Force. Wear this bracelet to show your solidarity with the men and women risking their lives for our nation. Each bracelet comes in a durable aluminium presentation case – free of charge! This contemporary case will keep your bracelet safe when it’s not being worn, and is perfect if you are ordering the bracelet as a gift." To support our troops a snip at £59 and at the end 5% to Help for Heroes......... all £3 of it.. :( |
tacky....yes
opportunistic....yes |
Why not just donate the £59 directly?
|
It's tacky, but this is just terrible
"A remarkable, self-illuminating panorama of the Battle of Trafalgar. Lemuel Abbott’s portrait of Nelson decorates the top of the panorama, overlooking the dramatic The Battle of Trafalgar, 21st October 1805 painted by Samuel Drummond. It is a poignant portrayal of a hero’s last hours. The lights are powered by a mains adaptor or AA batteries (both included). Perfect for display at any time of day!"

www.afghanheroes.org.uk I have mates out there - who have all lost mates in the sand. If I was still in, I would be there too. Go here: Heroes Concert - Ticket Info |
Funny looking Lancs on the clock face
As for the tat bracelet, copyright infringment perhaps ? |
Hasn't this been proposed by a couple of the Pakistani cricketers who've suddenly got some time on their hands and money with 'no-one's name' on it???
|
Worcestershire Royals' T20 shirt costs £40, £10 of which goes to H for H. Also a collection at yesterday's match raised £1000 and no wristbands!
|
Looks like an advertising jamboree! No more ads please. Those that are advertising have been deleted.

When is Sarco's next state visit???:E Old Woodrow Wyatt was invariably asked to spell his name when checking in to hotels in Paris so he used his own phonetic language. Waterloo-Ypres-Agincourt-Trafalgar-Trafalgar. :E |
Let them know
Not usually one to write protest letters but have just e-mailed Danbury Mint to let them know that I wont be buying one on princible, even though I like it. Making £56 off of the back of a worthy Charity is not acceptable.
Apart from that, I bought a similar Bracelet from them with The Portsmouth F.C (don't laugh) logo on it for my son for Christmas and the Logo's are already starting to wear off. I Apperciate they have Manufacturing costs, but even so, the amount they make on their other tack, they could easily donate the whole lot and show a bit of support. Even 50% would be nice. Get on their website and e-mail them through the 'Contact us' link and badger them. |
Help for Heroes and their association with the scum newspaper is plain wrong. The whole thing reeks of opportunism on the back of soldiers suffering, it's become like x-factor or some other crap ideal for the public to latch on to.
Having Help for Heroes takes the heat off the 'govern'ment who should be ensuring that every injured/disabled soldier should want for nothing. The wrath of the public should be placed upon the 'govern'ment for their decisions, Help for Heroes is something they are able to hide behind and it helps to shroud their responsibility in sending soldiers to fight wars based on lies, and then their after-care once they've done their dirty work. What's wrong with giving to the Legion or Poppy appeal, Not glam enough??? |

Manufacturing cost would be less than Pounds 3, if that much. Probably under 1.50 pounds. |
Pious Pilot
I'm with you brother :D H4H has b@ggered all of the more traditional Service charities that have always done an excellent job. And H4H merchandise is just :yuk: IMHO LJ |
H4H was a blank canvas, had media appeal and was able to gear up and respond to the immediate demand of a few years ago. I am a huge fan of RBL, but institutionally, it was not positioned to act in the dynamic way that H4H did. Having said that, nowt goes out of fashion faster than fashion - I hope the momentum may be maintained. Whoever does it.
Thinking about it, I wonder if there is a way that an aged celeb can get 40% uplift on a personal pension, but with a specifically named, youthful but needy (in the future) Veteran as the nominated beneficiary when the celeb dies? That would cover both bases - private sector 'get up and go', and State support (via tax relief). That one might be worthy of a little more thought. |
