Question for serving 3 squadron folk
Hi,
I was at RAF Coningsby, trying to get some decent photos of the Typhoon (I failed :ugh:) and was lucky enough to see a number of 3 sqn aircraft. I noticed that there were some variations of the code and badge on the tails and wondered if that had any meaning, for example All aircraft bar one were coded OU-, this I know is the former allocated letters from WWII, but I also saw one coded O-UA (on both sides so not a mistake I presume) and with regards the to sqd badge I saw that one aircraft had the cockatrice facing towards the nose but on others the cockatrice was always facing towards the left. What is the significance of the differences? |

Looks like mix-ups and errors during the application. They have been like that for a couple of years.

It happened on 1435 Flt's Typhoons. The painters thought that the falcons should both be facing forwards, instead of to the left as per the crest. It was the boss who noticed it first, but only after he'd been flying it for a few weeks!
