Removal of PVR option with FRI

A bloke in the pub has reliably informed me that if you take / have taken a FRI, PMA are now saying that you have lost your right to PVR during the FRI return of service. In other words, no saying "sorry, my mistake" and paying it back when you leave if you PVR, as has always been the case.
Is this switch from financial sweetener to golden handcuffs really legal? Is it indicitive of a growing sense of alarm in the corridors of power that a mass exodus is on the horizon?
I'm off back down the pub to see what people there think!

Taken Directly from the Admin instruction for FRI 3:

Notice to Terminate/Optional Exit Point

14. An individual who has received a FRI payment will be expected to complete the RoS requirement. An application for Early Termination or to exercise an option point will not be granted until such time that the RoS is satisfied. In the exceptional event that they are permitted to leave the Service during the RoS period they will have to repay the net value of the FRI on or before their last day of service. Compassionate cases, including medical cases, will be assessed on a case-by-case basis by Service Personnel and Veterans Agency Joint Personnel Administrative Centre, Pay & Allowance Casework Cell (Glasgow) (Recoveries and Write-Offs) (SPVA JPAC PACC (G) (R&WO) with casework advice from ACOS Manning.

If you are not happy with that, then don't take the FRI....It's as the meerkat says in the advert.

Regards

TEP :hmm:

I was very pleased when I was offered, and accepted, an FRI just to complete the remaining 5 years of a Permanent Commission I was going to complete anyway. Marvellous! :ok:

Crikey,

That is a pretty significant manning development that was rather quietly introduced. Many thanks the very useful info Arty and TEP. Where would we be without fine Pruners highlighting these clandestine alterations?

Mr Bernoulli correctly highlights some of the weaknesses in the FRI system. Just remember, however, that you may find yourself at the end of the five years on the wrong side of the employment curve...

To be fair, were it not for the worst recession in living memory, we'd be up said creek sans paddle right now.

When the recovery (big when!) happens, it may not be pretty in terms of JPA pvr button presses! If there is no recovery in the next couple of years (double-dip etc), I'd expect some significant shedding of personnel at option points.

Interesting that the redundancy terms have also been tweeked... :ooh:

I wonder if a sudden inability to pass the fitness test 3 times would count as exeptional circumstances. :uhoh:

No Need to go through all that Arty, just refuse to take the random drug test; you are asked to leave and without poor reference. :ok:

Sounds fair to me - the R in FRI does stand for retention after all!

Makes you wonder why there is an FRI at all ......;)

But you can expect PVR waiting times to increase, as they did the last time we came out of the bottom of a recession.

you are asked to leave and without poor reference
Assuming you are being serious are you sure about that? Even if you're right any airline HR is going to be suspicious of how someone has managed to leave the Services over night .....
