Had to make a quick visit to Wales acouple of weeks ago, so popped up to the Mach Loop for a day to see what I could see......

It looks as if that last Tonka is filming you as it goes past! The lens on the targetting pod is looking straight at you.
Would be nice to see what the snappers look like on the hilside (subtle hint)

Well done, BW; those photos are great. They make me want to climb a hill in the area of Machynlleth!

Nice images, BW. Number 2 gets my vote. Nice angle with the efflux and the strobe is an added bonus!

PPRuNe has had a slight increase in image size from 800x600.

The new maximum image size is now 850x850. 850 wide being the agreed maximum width permitted.

The backseater in the F15 looks like he's hanging on for grim death!

Dont blame him!! Had an email from the pilot looking for a high rez copy, it was his first time round the Loop!! :ooh::ooh::ooh:

The turn before where I shot these is quite an eye opener for the uninitiated!! Been round there in a Hawk and as much as I love flying that turn was a bit white knuckle and brown trousers, all I could see was mountain filling the canopy and what looked like no way through until we banked hard left!!

Great piccies and there must be a fair bit of activity around those parts as they didn't even scare the sheep even if it did the F15 nav. :}

Great to see the names on the side of the jets, too. When I visited 43 during training, I sat in the back, looked at the name on the side and thought 'I am bloody well going to have mine there'. Some years later I was there but no more names, cost of paint or whatever :mad:

Must be a great moment to have a phot, once CR, with your name on the jet!

Here's a spot that was always quite a challenge:

Google Maps

The western entrance to Harp Lake, Labrador. You would OLF down the valley northwest of Harp Lake, hang a steep left, then amble round the valley until you reached a sudden right-left. But the left turn was just after a vee-shaped gate for which you felt you had to roll to 90deg.

100ft over the lake seemed tame by comparison.

I would say that Cad West and Corris Corner in the Mach Loop provide some of the best photo locations. The Bwlch in the Mach Loop is also good for catching streaming ribbon vapour off the F-15s. I'm a huge fan of dramatic head-on images. Some examples taken recently by low-level photographers in Wales at the locations previously listed. Some taken with large lens mounted on gimbal headed tripods.
