Think I probably worked on that one @ St Athan,1983
IIRC (and memory is a funny thing) it was the first airframe to have the full 'phase 6' modifications / upgrades...gave us riggers a lot of work!

Ivor thanks.

Out of interest what did the full 'phase 6' modifications / upgrades entail?

occassionally open it up so that visitors to BP can sit in the cockpit
A nice little fund-raiser? £1.00 in the tin to sit in it?

been doing a bit of digging on harriers due to the fact its my old mans 60th birthday soon and he was very proud of his time servicing harriers.
his favourite and memorable aircraft was xv752 and if you check the service records you will see his signature.
he serviced it in wittering, guttersloh and at saints.
he left in 1990 after 23 years as a chief tech.
xv752 was out of service due to fuel leaks it came in with 1 leak and stayed for 18 months as when the aircraft was waiting for repairs other teams used to rob the parts for other harriers and it was affecinatly known as the christmas tree and as parts where hard to obtained a lot were robbed from xv752.
that is why it took 18 months to get flying again.

752 is scheduled to be dismatled at Bletchley Park over the weekend of 3rd-4th Dec 2011 i.e wing off and then loaded onto a lo-loader for her scheduled departure to her new home on 5th Dec 11.At least this will mean that she will be preserved. All 2366 ATC needs now is replica spit or hurri replica to replace her so we can keep with Bletchley Parks WWII theme.........but very much a pipe dream I think!!!

Where is she off to??

Last Flight of XV752-8/10/90

XV752 last flew on the 8/10/90 on a low level training sortie from RAF Leeming to RAF Cosford and I was the pilot who flew it. In fact I flew XV752 on it's final 4 flights. The aircraft was serving with 4 (AC) SQN at Gutersloh and by October 1990 the SQN had already started reiquipping with the GR7 Harrier. Half the SQN were flying the new aircraft while the other half would continue to fly the GR3 until mid January 1991.
I flew the aircraft on the 5/10/90 from Gutersloh to RAF Scampton where I stayed for the weekend and then on the morning of the 8/10/90 I flew her to RAF Leeming where 5 other Harriers had deployed that morning from Gutersloh for a 2 day detachment to conduct low flying training in the UK, we had at this time stopped low flying over Germany.
I flew her at midday on a 4 v 2 low level attack sortie landing back at Leeming and then in the afternoon I flew XV752 on her last flight, again at low level, with the final landing at RAF Cosford. I had about 10 minutes of fuel on arrival at Cosford which I used mostly in jet borne flight.
I remember XV752 with affection probably mostly for the fact that I flew her
on her last flight but also due to the fact that she performed flawlessly for
those 4 sorties. I wanted to keep something from the aircraft and actually had
a multi tool on my person but there was no time to remove any keepsake as
a Gazele helicopter was waiting to whisk me to Shawbury where a T4 Harrier
was waiting to fly me back to RAF Leeming. Hope this helps.

752's off to Aeroventure. Officially on charge at 1053 ATC but she will be kept at the museum.

XV752

I Have a photo of me working on this aircraft in "juliet" hide, Belize, c1975.
At the time she was flying with No1 Squadron, tail number (02 or 03) when we deployed to the carribean to thwart off an invasion threat from nearby Guatamarla.
Unable to upload this pic, however can email it if you are interested (its nothing special though !)

Regards.

I was oc Scheduled Servicing Flight in ME(A)S at Wittering in the late 70s, so probably had 752 in for a minor or major servicing (we did majors in ME(A)S in those days as well as hosting the retrofit team putting LRMTS in the T birds) although being a humble engineer, I don't have a log book recording tail numbers :). I'm interested in this sequence:

04/07/1983 3 Squadron R.A.F Gutersloh, West Germany.

05/071983 IV (AC) Squadron R.A.F Gutersloh, West Germany.

08/07/1983 1 (F) Squadron, R.A.F Wittering.

17/08/1983 Transferred to R.A.F St Athan for a major service.

It certainly seems like pass the parcel!

Photos of XV752

Just found this old thread.XV752 was the display Harrier at the September At Home display at Biggin Hill in 1971.I have posted some pictures of her display on Flickr, tagged with "Harrier XV752" so try a search to find the old girl...in great nick then, when a Harrier display was something of a novelty!

Not trying to nitpick, but your third line (28/08/1968 Harrier Conversion Team (HCT)) might have typo? Should that be 1969?

cynicalint 27th Feb 2018 23:48

ok4wire,
not trying to nit pick, but your response is to an 8 year old post, which may, or not, be "Ken Bruce pop master warning" one year out.

Oh, how Pprune needs a like button...

Just been to Bletchley and found the Harrier was missing, wondered where it went so searched PPRuNe and found this thread.,,,,,
Says it was on the move in 2010. however I am sure I saw it at BP in 2016 ish, round to the right of Hut 11 at the ATC building

So just when did it move? and I see it is listed as 'Outside' at Aeroventure. Looks like another place to visit when in that area (Doncaster)
