Just been listening to Portaloo on Newsnight.......knob-end.
Would sopmebody please tell him what the MRA4 can do. It's just that he doesn't seem to like aircraft that only exist to hunt submarines.

Portaloo is not the only one who does not know what MRA4 can do. Neither will the RAF until we get the fleet (such as it will be) to FOC.
We know what it is supposed to be able to do and we know what we have paid for it to be able to do. What it actually can do is yet to be discovered.

I know a fair few folk with a reasonable idea what the MRA4 can do. And, notwithstanding the inevitable teething troubles, they are convinced that it is a good piece of kit. Those at ISK - aircrew and groundcrew - are keen to show exactly what it is capable of.

I don't think the capabilities of the MRA4 is the point here, those capabilities will be used to full advantage (as always) by the crews who fly it. I also saw the Portillo interview and agree with the opening post. That an ex defence secretary should apply the description "exist to hunt submarines" to an aircraft with such a versatility of roles is a terrible indictment of the lack of understanding shown by those responsible, at the highest level, for the defence of the nation.

Just a thought - without too much cost incurred in range tests, could a portaloo ( obviously, used ) be dropped on Portillo via GPS and link/ designator etc by an MRA4 ?

Just a thought, but would be a fitting end to someone once dubbed ' the human oilslick '.

A video of the occasion would probably pay for the flight, and who knows if Nu Labour stay in power knighthoods all round for the crew...

I saw the oleaginous performance of El Portillo on the box last night and was, shall we say, less than impressed.

Spouting a few catchphrases such as 'boots on the ground', he came across as a total idiot. Whereas the French spokesman was much more articulate and at least offered considered replies rather than prepared phrases.

One hopes that El Portillo will not be put in charge of anything important after the next election. Minister of Transport (or whatever it's now called) - he could play with his beloved choo-choos to his heart's content.....:\

Portaloo was also, I understand, responsible for selling the FMQ estate in 96 to Nomura/Annington. Discuss...
