Colt...

Why planes could return to Coltishall airbase - Norfolk News - EDP24

This makes interesting reading for anyone interested in Colts future.

What, are they planning on moving in the Woyal Wegiment of Woodworkers?

Colt and Norwich comparisons

Norwich Airport has 1841 metres of runway, and they happily operate 737's out of there. Does anyone there remember how long Colt's is?

Re the news item yesterday. It gave quite specific information on what the plan was - maybe mrmsmith missed a couple of small points buried in the content?

At 7500' / 2286m Colt's main runway is longer than those of Dunsfold and Kemble (1880m and 2010m respectively). Both of the latter airfields take redundant jet liners up to 747 size for exactly this sort of work.

2286 metres. (Ha, beaten to it)

Arrivals would certainly outnumber 'escapers' if all goes to plan.

We had Concorde land !

Bet they still haven't changed the Mess door-entry code.:)

Flown out of there in VC10s many times. Plenty of room.

if a Trident can make a safe landing on 853m (and no, no numbers missing there!) then I'm sure a 737 can get into Colt!

A great initiative - re-establishing an airfield on finals for another airfield.

However, I can see where Andy V is coming from. Good luck.

One clapped out Classic coming in a week ain't going to cause NWI to have kittens.

It isn't exactly the same as 4 Squadrons trying to launch a morning wave, is it now. :ugh:

No surprises there...of course it's a goodly size, or else how could the Jags have got off the ground, especially at the height of the Norfolk summer...

Two Tone Blue

Coltishall is to the north east of Norwich. In fact Colt's runway lines up with the old 04/22 cross runway at Norwich, which is now a parking lot.

If (big if I know) Colt were to re-open maybe the light aircraft at Norwich could reposition across there? I get the impression that the grown-ups at Norwich don't really like we PPL's grubbing up the circuit. This might be a good solution all round.....

On second thought's, that does appear to make some sort of sense, so it'll never happen. Must remember to take my cynicism tablet tonight.

Thoughts on the above anyone?
