T.T.+G.???
Question for the mil historians here. I'm doing some research on behalf of a family friend who is tracing the life of a relative who flew bombers in WW2.
However, he can't decifer what No. 1484 T.T.+G refers do - a course done before the individual started on Lancasters in 1943. Anybody got any clue as to what this was? Many thanks |
Target Towing and Gunnery Flight. They were numbered in the 1234 range.

Al,
A little more which may or may not be of interest 1484 (Target Towing + Gunnery) Flight. Formed 30/10/41 at Driffield from 4 Group TT Flight as 1484 (TT) Flt; redesignated as 1484 (TT+G) Flt 01/42, redesignated 1484 (Bomber) Gunnery Flight 18/12/42. DB 15/2/44 to become 1689 Bomber (Defence) Trg Flight. Types in use Fairey Battle; Defiant; Lysander; Tiger Moth; Anson; Oxford; Whitley; Martinet and Hurricane IIC. Thought the dates/types might help give some insight. I'm glad to say that I had to look all of this up! |

Thanks for all the info, I know it will be greatly appreciated!! |
Thankyou also.
I have my Grandfathers logbook - Lancaster tail gunner - and the above clears up a few items. Makes good reading considering the numbers of Ops he did would have shamed the "Memphis Belle" several times over. |
