Dave 'GRIPPER' Evans, Top Table, RAF Shawbury
Gripper is leaving having spent the last 34 years 'chopping to ensure job security'.
I am organising a Top Table lunch at The WO's & Sgt's Mess, RAF Shawbury. 1300L Fri 06 Nov 09. Lunch will be 3 courses (sausage, chips and gravy for the Crewmen) followed by refreshments in the bar. Drinks available with lunch for the Merlin Crewmen, bar open until late for the Puma boys and a push into town for the Chinny mates! Places will be strictly limited to 60, so bids in early please. Cost for saying goodbye to a legend (dinosaur) will be approximately £15. Accommodation is available in both messes, please arrange your own. Those not fortunate to make lunch are more than welcome to partake in drinky-poos post food. Dress will be jacket and tie, worn Farah slacks for the over 45s. Please contact me (PM or details below), or Dave if you would like to partake, no maybes thank you. Rgds Geraint 'Roly' Roberts. 01939 250351, 95531 x7025 |
Unfortunately I am otherwise engaged, otherwise I would have loved to have attended.
Best wishes for the bash, and I'm sure you'll do Dave proud (well, the Chinny and Puma mates anyway). MGD PS: I'll try and drop your respirator in next time Im passing. |
Cheers mate, we'll raise a glass to those unable to attend.
Rgds Roly. |

MGD Most of the Merlin Crewmen would be more welcomed by Gripper than you so don't lose any sleep over it. No really, don't. Perhaps we can all attend your Top Table when you leave. I am sure there will be plenty of spare seats! :} |
Whatever Wizard.
Your inferiority complex seems to have over-ridden your sense of humour. Not what this thread is about, and I'll post no more so you can get as many self-defeating ripostes in as you can. If you do attend Grippers doo, have a good time. |
1358 views and no takers, surely someone out there likes Dave.

Best of luck whatever plans you have. "Me? Swear? I never f#$%^&g swear!" |
This is not Dave 'knackered old Wokingham git' Evans, the crewman is it? He's at Shaw.

He's the one who thinks that going 'Commando' means riding a motorcycle! Is he really retiring; or just swapping eppaulettes?
When I was on the mighty Wessex in NI, the pussycats were practising their drills for putting IV drips into soldiers. Dave volunteered to be pin cushion, & rolled up both sleeves. 5 mins later a real ambulance was required for one unconsious crewman who at the sight of blood said: Cya! I suspect that he is the only aircrew person ever to ditch an aircraft and get into his dinghy without getting wet; and then getting his aircrew leather jacket back after it has been to the bottom of the English Channel. Cannot imagine too many (F'ing-blunties) adminers will attend the dinner ;) though a Guru might. |
ipodder
Have you got permission for the festivities in the mess to include officers and retired SH guys? If so I would love to attend. I will even travel 6000 miles to do so! |
Sorry for my dopiness- is it Macr Evans of Puma and Griffin fame? (Oh, and a holiday in NI too)

Wizard,
Merlin crews of all persuasions are always welcome at social occasions. They serve to remind the rest of us that, no matter how bad life appears to be, there are always others less fortunate, witty and good-looking than ourselves... SBW |
Roger, it's a private function so all welcome, although I will confirm again with the CMC on Monday.
Charlie, it most certainly is. Rgds. |
All ranks and ex. serving most welcome.
