To the 145 listed today and the countless others who were not

Great to see the Dark Blue well represented, including an MC to a lady combat medic.
BZ to all concerned, and those whose bravery did not get an official mention. |
Well done to all concerned. Only one light blue, I was expecting to see some more awards for our SH crews.

Agree wholeheartedly - makes a mockery of the 'no females in the combat arms' when you read her citation!:D As for the lack of SH medals - could be one of two things. Firstly, the sterling work they are doing is now considered 'routine' and no longer out of the ordinary or, secondly, they have been poorly written up (or indeed, there hasn't been people to do the wirte ups). No 'green eyed jealously' here - it's always been the case that the other Services, in particular the Army, have always been far far better when it comes to writing up citations (be they either operational awards or peacetime awards). You would think the RAF would be better given the number of staff officers we have buried in JHC and Air Command! So much for the 'back home for tea and medals' - or is that the FJ mob!!!!!!;) |
Heartily agree with these sentiments. I started a thread on this on Jet Blast this morning , but happy to contribute to this one. The award of the MC to a female naval rating is a first. Great pic of Able Seamen Kate Nesbitt on the front page of The Times today. I hope she wont be offended if I say she looks even younger than her 20 years, but what a brave girl! Fantastic achievement :ok:

Agreed, BZ all round, especially AB Nesbitt! Those marines aren't so tough ;)

From someone outside the military I would like to show my appreciaton of all those mentioned and those who werent - reading the citations is enough ground for admiration - i'm sure the reality was even more so. The every day bravery and effort goes largely unmentioned in the public arena but it is something I think about anyway. It is difficult to walk up to a member of the services and say thanks without feeling silly and possibly causing embarrassment so here is my thanks to all

Well done to all awarded honors in todays list.
Just watched the ITV news report, where do these reporters get their facts from? In the report about the Navy girl getting the MC they showed "her Military Cross glinting in the sun". I'm pretty sure the medal I saw glinting wasn't cross shaped and was in fact the OSM for Afghanistan! :ugh: |
You're quite right. Although they have been gazetted and now entitled to wear the ribbons and put the letters after their names, the actual crosses, etc, won't be in their possession until The Queen or her representative hands them over at an investiture. Even The Times got it wrong, with a picture of a Military Cross and bar beside AB Nesbitt's photo.

Well done - and more importantly, THANK YOU
BZ! S41 |
Amazing stories of bravery.
Reading the citations, I wonder if I could have done the same thing at that age and then thank God that I was never put in a situation where I needed to find out. Well done to those awarded and to all those who serve and served. |
I spent my time serving in total admiration of those of the older generation who served in WWII. I now spend my time in retirement in total admiration of the younger generation who are doing such dangerous work on our behalf, so courageously and so professionally. While those who have been honoured concentrate that admiration on an individual basis, I would reiterate the point made by others of everyone who face danger while "just doing their job" daily with both courage and professionalism. As a mere civilian I feel both humbled and grateful to you all. Thank you.

Congrats to all, especially G Simmonite for excellent handling in an aircraft emergency where the CWP lit up like a christmas tree.
Glad to see the dark blue get some recognition in the 'stan at last... |
A proud Family.... again
Reading the list, I noted the award of an MC to Corporal Richard Bateman RM
I bet Jamie is looking down with pride, despite the Para - RM family rivalry. Congrats to those listed, and our continued thanks and support to those that aren't. sw |
