Spotted: Jaguar flying over A11 around Wymondham!!
 

I was very surprised to see a Jaguar fly over me whilst driving down the A11 on thurs (30/4/09). I thought all Jaguars in the UK were retired including the Qinetiq aircraft. Does anybody where this Jaguar may have come from and what it may have been doing?? I would be interested to find out if there was a group of enthusiasts somewhere determined to keep the Jaguar flying.

Just in case in anybody was going to suggest I was mistaken I should probably let you know that I worked as Jaguar Groundcrew for 3 years so I'm very familiar with the noise and appearance of the aircraft.

It appeared to be in the standard grey military livery and was carrying 2 drop tanks as was standard for flight ops.

If anyone has any info on this I would certainly appreciate finding out more about it.

Are the Indians and Oman still flying them ?

I'd love it to be true, but wasn't there French Air Force Mirage F.1s in UK airspace this week? The wing shape with the fuel tanks and especially at height could cause a recognition error.

As I said. I would love to be proved wrong!

HINDUSTAN AERONAUTICS are currently building the last few jags for
the indian airforce.
they are also looking at the possibility of an engine upgrade,
candidates are HONEYWELL F1251N and a new RR ADOUR 871.

both of these would bring an increase in thrust and reduced fuel
burn (it says here!!!:O).

As far as I am aware the French F1s are all Camouflaged Light grey/Dark green. Flying out of "Reims" and "Colmar"

The Spanish fly F1s in a light grey scheme.

I do know that two Mirage 2000 were due to depart Marham yesterday.
Some of the French Mirage 2000 do have a light coloured scheme.
So conceivably it may have been one of those.
I can understand if the sighting was brief , it can be deceptive.

If it proves to be a Jaguar, I would be more than keen to know the location where it is based.

The M2000s at Marham were 'D-models' and thus would've been in the green/grey camo.

I've not read anywhere about any Jags being returned to flight condition, and there's not been any mention anywhere else of any 'visitors' putting in an appearance (and believe me, it would be headline news within the enthusiast community).

According to this spotter site, seems something was going on with the Jaguar(s).

It's good seeing it again, almost forgot what they look like its been that long.

They're non-flyers, Mick. 284 Sqn taxi them around the airfield but that's as close to flying as they get.

Oh, I didn't know that. Is 284 Sqn, Air Training Corps?

We now have 2 more Jags at TCF, DCAE Cranwell, both in ETPS "Raspberry Ripple" colours. One of the tasks for our Eng Officer students as part of their final consolidation training on 1 May was to generate a 5-ship "fly past", something they will probably have to do once they are out doing the job for real. It was a "taxi-past" of course and a nice surprise for our outgoing CO who has just completed his tour with DCAE at Cranwell.

When I visited Cosford in Feb, the Spotty Jag was by the looks of things undergoing a double engine change.

Oh yes, you can see one of the new engines on the right hand side of the photo.....improved power, reduced fuel consumption...!;)

..and presumably there is a bit of a sweepstake for who gets to taxi them!

And I guess you are not permitted to sit at the end of the runway in full burner:)

Don't you need burner to taxi them or are they light enough on fuel to be able to be moved off the chocks in full dry power .....:E
