Capped Actuals Binned !!

Dear all,

have it on good authority that blunty command do not like the system of capped actuals and that they have backed aircrew calls for a return to rates.

Decision rests with the taxman, however, looking at early next year for a change should the taxman approve.

Actually I think there was. It was one of the reasons we went from a 'whole' rate (for accom and food) to a half rate system - for those who remember back that far. Then there was an interim system where we had part of the the rate taxable and part not. The taxman never liked the possibility of people getting money which they might not then spend - tax-free emoluments, I think, was the term.

I wonder what the taxman thinks of MPs getting houses that they might not live in then?:*

He seems to be less interested in what you spend it on than whether you have actually spent it.

If it's a tax issue, he's going to be more in favour of rates so we can all go get leathered and buy a pack of tabs with the nightly rate. Far more tax revenue than actually eating.....

Tis all true!

After a concerted campaign by the senior officers of all 3 Services the JPA capped actual system has been recognised as unweildy to administer, impossible to police properly and open to fraudulent behaviour. Sooo in time we'll return to a rating system (probably for food only not HOTAC). Timing is the key and yes the tax man does have a vote because there is just the meerest hint that in using rates rather than actuals someone might make a profit and hence have an enhanced income. Don't think he'll worry too much though.

All in all one up for the good guys.

Good news if it's true! With this rash outbreak of common sense, can we please now change back all the other crap things in the RAF too?

How does this work with respect to the Airlines then, as they are effectively on a flat rate too? Is this taxed or seen as an allowance?
