Wow! Real good.
Did you shoot them? I remember when Illustrious was on tele for about 5 weeks. :p |
Yes, all my own work- a perk of the job!

Excellent stuff - and it's a perk of the job? Lucky b*gger! :ok:
However, one of those aircraft looks awfully like a SHAR. Air Defence of the Fleet is an outmoded concept, I hope you realise. :E |
Cracking photos mate!
|
Actually, there are 2 x SHar in photo 3.....
(Coat, anorak etc etc....) Great pics! S41 |
And what's with the Bentley? (unless it's a Roller ....)
|
I seem to recall Top Gear having a Rolls in one of their episodes that started on a carrier.
I think |
Years ago when we had a real RN with real carriers, when the F-4 was delivered with RR Spey engines, 892 Sqn was presented with a freebie Rolls Royce Silver Shadow.....
Unfortunately it didn't last long - it was soon written-off by someone's careless driving near Yeovilton. |
Nah, that was a Jaguar XJ-S Top Gear had on the carrier. The one they flung off the end of the Skijump & "killed" the first Stig. (Not for real of course).
Great pictures, thank you for sharing with us, always nice to see the Harrier. :) Someone should tell the captain he can't just park his Rolls Royce Phantom in the middle of the carrier like that. :O Beautiful car though, just a shame it isn't like the RR engine in the Harrier.......British. |
Nope- it was after S1 (where 'Black' Stig was "killed").
|
My late father took his Rolls Royce (a 1923 RR 20) on the first commission of the penultimate Ark Royal in 1953. At the time it was the only RR engine on board :ok:
|
Yep, quite right. :ok:
Sorry to highjack your thread, but I just remembered on Top gear when they raced a Harrier FA-2 against a Saab 9-5. Classic one that was. YouTube - Sea Harrier vs. Saab 9-5 Hot Aero (Poor sound quality though) Jezza: "Can you imagine ringing up the Royal Navy & saying; hello I'm from that poky motoring programme on BBC2, would it be possible to borrow one of your Sea Harriers?.......You could imagine what the response would be..." Harrier pulls up along side a Saab on the race track ready for a race*** Classic haha |
James May's review of the new Rolls Royce, on TG a few series ago started on HMS Illustrious, it's bound to be on Dave soon. :ok:
|
Some sweet photos man. Soon to be replaced by the JCA. Can't wait to see this aircraft in service.

'Soon' is a military PR term which implies a degree of urgency somewhat less than that of 'maņana'.
As in "Nimrod 2000, oops, sorry, Nimrod MRA4 will be in service 'soon' " "We will 'soon' succeed in Afghanistan" etc etc.....:ugh: |
