A Guardian Article You Should Read...

Not my favourite newspaper but, if you only read one article from the above publication this year, this should be it:

Bloody reality: David Cotterrell's diary and photographs are a harrowing reminder of the cost of war | World news | The Guardian

Humbling, truly humbling.

EngAl 25th Nov 2008 10:58

I agree very moving and thought provoking.

HaveQuick2 25th Nov 2008 11:05

Thanks for bringing that article to our attention.

Those medic teams do a fantastic job.

chinook240 25th Nov 2008 11:56

Thank you.

Rigger1 25th Nov 2008 12:39

Everyone in the country should read this - especially the politicians.

c-bert 25th Nov 2008 13:53

An excellent article. Thanks for sharing.

I have a list of papers i read online, and the Guardian has now become one of them. Know your enemy! Great article, and all the better for jorno admitting his gut feelings/

In the jobs section last week was an advert for the position of "Black Rod"

occhips 25th Nov 2008 15:34

How sad is that? what an article - very moving.

kokpit 25th Nov 2008 17:25

Thanks David Cotterrell for taking the time to spend a week in such conditions, and reporting it out in such a fashion, you have restored my faith in British journalism. :ok:

An excellently written article that gets the point across....Brit troops etc are risking their lives and limbs daily. And it is mostly forgotten on the 'home front'

sled dog 25th Nov 2008 19:11

Very, very moving. And today i hear another Marine has gone...........Where are our Nato " allies " assisting in all this ? I am not in the UK, but still feel sorrow for the loss of another of " our " troops. RIP.

There is a thread about Journalist's on this site.

This guy (ponytail or not) gets my vote.

Thank you for telling the truth.

A very thoughtful and well written article.

It is a sad truth that in todays society stories like this aren't given half the attention as some has been celebrity bounding around a television set. But then that wouldnt sell papers would it?!

My thoughts go to all those British service/ civilian personnel currently on ops wherever they be in the world.:D

Zoom 25th Nov 2008 21:22

Well written. It kept making me think of the TV series MASH, not the humorous bits but the surges of activity when the casualties arrived. The medical staff deserve as much credit for doing a very tough job as everyone else out there.

Polikarpov 26th Nov 2008 00:55

The chap in question was on Today (Nov 25), available on BBC Listen Again (interview starts around the 01:26:00 mark).

NUFC1892 26th Nov 2008 05:30

A well written piece:D, which I hope provoked some thought amongst the civilian population for the outstanding work being carried out in theatre, by all professions.

geniculate 26th Nov 2008 07:00

Agreed - a well written piece and very candid.

I would love to see this man follow up the work in Selly Oak and Headley Court so we get the whole story

Squirrel 41 26th Nov 2008 21:18

Thanks for that - very moving.

BZ to all involved.

Excellent article, challenges lots of preconceptions, even the ones about guardian journalists.
