Only the Swiss. All that chocolate and cuckoo clocks...

That's not flying, it's falling...with style!

To infinity and beyond!

Crossing the FIR boundary, as he will have to, and potentially entering the Worthing CTA (if it's still there - my UK chart is zillions of years old but shows the base as FL65 - and flying a turbine powered aircraft (heavier than air)....should this guy not have a type rating for this?
What nationality registration is the aircraft and which (other) country is allowing it to fly in their airspace without, presumably, a certificate of airworthiness or rating to fly it? Does it have radio and transponder? What aircraft are they going to follow it with to provide television coverage and how will that aircraft comply with airspace rules? |

Yves Rossy
If no-one else here is going to tip their hat to Yves Rossy then I certainly will..:ok:
In my view, he's attempting something that would strike a chord with all previous aviation pioneers going all the way back to the Wright brothers.. Have we all become so immersed in Health & Safety culture that we're no longer able to recognise a true free spirit..? There can't be that many aviation 'firsts' left to be claimed by individuals - so the very best of luck to you Yves! |

Yves Rossy was a guest speaker to the Society of Experimental Test Pilots at our annual European Symposium, held this year in Lausanne. He brought along the kit, and took us through the very scientific development and testing process that he had followed. I guess if there had been a mechanism for granting instant membership of our society, a 'yes' decision from the audience would have been unanimous. I hope he's now finding the time to fill in the forms.
His achievement is pretty unique. Respect, absolutely. Here's wishing him luck with the cross-Channel venture. BTW, he's ex Swiss Air Force, and still a Reservist, flying fast jets, as well as his day-job. KeyGrip: I think you'll find there's a one-word answer: EXEMPTIONS. |
Here's one I made earlier, enjoy:
YouTube - Jetman Live National Geographic Promo If he has to cancel tomorrow (Friday) then the whole thing is called off... brave man, but upset a few suits in the office today with his decision to do a no fly! :E I'm surprised the French production company got permission for him to land from the National Trust for in time... |
Have to agree with Idle Stop's report from SETP symposium. I'm sure the audience thought we were going to meet a Looney, but by the end of his hour or so on stage he had a distinguished audience of tps tipping our collective hat in acknowledgement of his professionalism, dedication and truly embracing the spirit of flight that brought us all together.
Best of luck Yves, here's to you my friend. Tarnished |

Yesterday's cancellation, (and Wednesdays), was really disappointing, but understandable with what's at stake. However, with all the planning and preparation he has undertaken I was surprised he had never visited his landing site and was worried about not recognising it!
Fingers crossed for todays attempt. ERB |
A success!
Seems he has done it in a little over 10 minutes! :D Awesome.....if a little bit scary!
|
Legend!
Say what you will about H&S, I salute him as a man with balls of steel and the sort of pioneeering spirit we could all do with every now and then. Here's some footage of his antics today |
Huh, no victory roll? No run and break?
