Questions about France/England's air force pilot training
I am looking for some insider accounts about pilot training in Europe, specifically France and UK. How long are the programs? How difficult is it to become a combat pilot? How are the candidates picked for pilot? How do specific aircraft assignments work? What aircraft do you train in? Enlighten me. Thanks.

England do not have an Air Force.
Its British and called the Royal Air Force.. A bit more research is required before posting a question I think. Although the English Air Force proves that you are American. |
Enlighten yourself - try reading the thread at the top.

I think c130bloke means this one(if not then I'm confused)
http://www.pprune.org/military-aircr...ead-first.html You can teach a monkey how to ride a bike.....but have you ever seen a monkey fix one? Standby................................. |

Have'nt you got to teach them to read a map then ?
|
.. in which case 450, we'd need non-commissioned pilots again.
(Not forgetting too of course, that we'd end up having to fall foul of gender discrimination law) |
but have you ever seen a monkey fix one? |
But the next question might be - would a monkey have the balls to be a combat pilot....and the answer would be:
Of course, he would use his Monkey Nuts, naturally! |
Hmmmmmmmmmmm
If you guys have that much time on your hands why not start your own thread insteadof trashing this guys thread? The RAF do basic training on Grob 115E 2 seat aerobatic trainers. Then you move on to the Tucano 2 seat turboprop. If you get that far then jet/fighter/weapons training is on the BAE hawk as used by the Red Arrows. Don't know anything about the French but hope this helps a little. A Google search would probably reveal more. |
Karl,
Because at heart we're still children.. and easily lead :{. A kind of monkey see, monkey do. |
I actually would like to find out how the French system differs to ours as well.
|
Whereas I could not give a toss as to how the Frenchies train :}.

French training is similar. About 80 or so hours on the Epsilon, then over an hundred on the Tucano then a bunch more on the Alpha Jet.
|
But the French do it with more style and considerably finer wines!
|
Personally I don't like the French wine.
I prefer New World... Back to Monkeys....my brother married a French Woman... |
One major difference is that the French air force streams pilots onto ME much earlier than in UK, with the result that some ME pilots have very little solo time, even on CAP10.
