Harrier Question

Just a quick question on the harrier for those in the know (idle curiosity has got the better of me today) - is the harrier capable of being started without any ground equipment/personnel whatsoever or is some sort of external power/assistance required?
Thanks in advance.

A good question and one easily answered.....but first......

Whats the difference between a Harrier engine and a Harrier pilot ?

L Peacock 11th Jul 2008 17:53

One continually makes a loud whining noise, the other's a jet engine.

John
The Harrier has its own GTS (Gas Turbine Starter) which means it does not need any kind of external equipment or ground crew to be able to start it.
Gosh Spheroid, I've never heard that one before!! The old ones are the best ones!

Correct...... now for the next one....

How do you recognise a Harrier Pilot?

Low Flier 11th Jul 2008 18:12

You can always tell a Harrier pilot, but you can't tell 'im much.

Out Of Trim 11th Jul 2008 18:20

He will tell you - He's a Harrier Pilot! :ok: :}

One expels huge volumes of hot air....

Craven Moorhed 11th Jul 2008 18:29

He'll be kissing the mirror.....

Not feeling much love for the Harrier pilots here!

Alber Ratman 11th Jul 2008 21:13

He will ignore any non Harrier Jock.:ok:

A 32 Sqn Pilot asked me when I picked him up from the mess, "Whats morale like here?" I replied " OK as far as I know?" His retort was "I've never been in a mess before were I've been totally ignored!"

NutLoose 11th Jul 2008 22:09

And don't forget the Harrier can use the Chinook as a ground power unit if required............ :ok:
