typhoon internal gun?

i heard from various sources that the eurofighter typhoon's internal gun would be discontinued in RAF service as there was "no need" for it and it was too costly. can any RAF personell ratify this or tell me if this rumour is true?

Welcome to Pprune...on the top right of your page you will find a search option. Carry out an advanced search and enter the words "Typhoon" and "Gun" into a Title Search.

Have a scroll through the posts and you'll find more banter about Typhoon and it's gun than you could care to read!

Matty your info is several years out of date - the RAF Typhoon does, and will have, a functioning gun. Apologies for the previous replies. And no, this isn't a state secret.

From the report on XI Sqn's recent trials at: http://www.raf.mod.uk/news/archive.cfm?storyid=6D13D980-1143-EC82-2EDA5F0B7BEB15D2

"While taking part in Green Flag, a major exercise in the United States, seven Typhoons from XI Squadron, based at RAF Coningsby, Lincolnshire, dropped munitions and fired their cannons with such precision that they have been declared combat ready by the target date of 1 July this year."

The inoitial design had a cannon, to save cost ther Gov't deleted the canon option, but that then caused weight and balance issues aroung the CG etc so they went back to the cannon.
