RAF C-130 stretched v low level over A14 this morning 07:58

Morning guys

As I was driving to work up the A14, after leaving Huntingdon/Spittles Interchange went past Graffam Water, saw one of our C-130 stretched, might be a J flying from south west at tree top level, very low level heading north east, by passed Molesworth village. Obviously it can't land at RAF Molesworth due to now runway since early 70s, so figured it be heading either towards Wittering or Cottesmore.

Starboard engine(s) thought looked like billowing smoke but could be wrong.

Amazing :ok:

Smokey engines, it must be a 'diesel' powered C-130K.

Due to the oil price rise, some C-130s are being converted to run on coal. Loadmasters will now be re-roled as stokers :ok:

Sitting in my garden sipping Pimms and lemonade this lunchtime I saw an aircraft flying overhead, or it might have been a UFO. It was very high indeed and I could really only see there was something there because there was a long thin line of what looked like white smoke behind it. It can't have been a C-130 because they are big, but it might have been a VC10 or Tristar because there were no pies left in my fridge. I think it was a UFO though, I certainly couldn't identify it. Can anyone help?

Ah! I know this one D-IFF. You spotted a flight by a little know jet belonging to the Guild of Aviation Artists. It is used to produce long, thin clouds which, when dispersed, give interesting and picturesque sky-scapes for their paintings.

:hmm:

C130s used to overfly our house in Barton under Needwood low enough to make the TV antenna shake but I never saw one that didn't have smoke coming from all four engines. The one this chap saw must have had an FCU fault on 1 and 2.

Faithless 4th Jun 2008 12:15

Come on gents give the guy a break!!!!

Just Joe Public with an obvious concern!

Whats more amazing is seeing a servicable C130 in the UK .....Flying....

Albeit with a problem.

Ops normal then :E

That/s odd, I have been looking all day and not seen an aircraft all day.

I only saw one yesterday. That was odd too. It had no smoke fromits engines.

Seen a few Chinnys today, wonder if any of them are the newsworthy HC3's!!

For reference, I'm not very far from where a certain high-profile landing by said type was made not so long ago!

Saw a twin prop flying backwards yesterday, it was going towards Nice but it was definitely flying backwards...ugly looking Burt thing

Gnd 4th Jun 2008 15:37

Newforest2 4th Jun 2008 15:42

Burt knows what he is doing, the free world will depend on him in the future!;)

Chinny

If you didn't realise it before, the amount of p*ss taken on this site is a sure sign that the military sense of humour is Fully Serviceable.

Don't take it to heart, you are not the first to suffer and assuredly, you won't be the last !!

Best regards

We often see 4 Merlins in very close formation and sometimes a couple of others near by.
