When does the bad news (re cuts) land? Is FLYNX dead?

There were lots of reports that the options run in PR08 (is PR planning round or programmes review, incidentally?) would be announced after the local elections.

Gordon has announced the £2.5 Bn compensation package (for the 10 p tax rate fiasco) but we're still waiting to see what the MoD will lose to pay for it, and for his other idiocies (and indeed for the real-world cuts imposed in CSR07).

So when do we expect the announcements?

And will FLYNX definitely be a casualty, or has it just had a last minute reprieve?

How about the two GR4 Squadrons?

Bases?

After the Crewe elections? I have got a funny feeling we are going to see some shocking economic figures out shortly, will certainly give the treasury some form of "reason" to cut defence expenditure, as long as that socialist beamoth the NHS needs cash, you can bet your bottom dollar we regoing to have our pips squeezed off by the tight-fisted scottish one.

Knee jerk reaction, he should be running the Air Force not the country!

Given the bad run of luck Labour seems to be having, ( I wonder why) i suspect Swiss Des has chosen to stay on holiday, If he ever came back from it.....

All good things come to those who wait? Labour that is...ie the dole queue hopefully:E

Well, bearing in mind we are about to enter the most severe recession since the 1930's, I think Labour wont be getting in for a very VERY long time after this...

Dont hold out much hope of the conservatives being the saviour of the Armed forces though. I hope they give us a decent pay rise once the economy gets sorted...

spheroid 23rd May 2008 17:29

Can anyone remember the pay rise we got in 1979 when the Conservatives won the election?

I heard at one stage that the aw139 or its 149 derivative was considered, would that work out cheaper in the long run than trying to stretch the Lynx all the way to eternity?

Biggus 24th May 2008 16:22

PR08 might be so yesteryear, but when are any details going to come out?

The last I heard was that, after discussion, it had gone back to the armed services chiefs for "re-drafting" or the equivalent. That was some while ago.

Is it still not resolved, or is the government looking for a good day to bury bad news - I would have thought we have already had enough of them!!!

VuctoredThrest 29th May 2008 09:02

Well the Crewe elections have come and gone and we still have a deafening silence regarding the erstwhile Flynx project. I assume that no news is good news and it is full steam ahead for the project. Just as well cos I have been working on the project for 18months and expect to do so for another 2 to 3 years.

VinRouge 29th May 2008 12:02

yeah, but now the crisis over the elections is over, they now have near riots over petrol prices and housing diving in value by 2.5% a month... inflation at "3.5%"... No more boom and bust my arse.

Having said that, you cant say they havent had enough opportunity to bury bad news!

Wensleydale 29th May 2008 13:32

My money (or what is left of it after tax) is on an anouncement about 5 minutes before the start of the summer recess to ensure sufficient discussion time on the matter in Parliament (from the Government point of view that is).:ugh:
