Chinook HC3 - Salisbury Plain 07/03/08

Spent today with my mate Dunny on Salisbury Plain. A decent amount of activity (mainly Boscombe stuff), but this was without doubt the highlight:

Huge thanks to the crew of "Gauntlet 66" for playing ball with us and providing some nice photogenic angles.

Lynx, Gazelle and Squirrel shots to follow if there's interest in seeing them.

Go on - show us your shots of the whistling chicken leg :ok:

206Fan 7th Mar 2008 20:48

Wow, them shots are awsome.. Is that a MH-47 or just a CH-47 with enlarged tanks??

And yes get the other shots up, def wana see the rest:}

Any chance of seeing them enlarged for say desktop pics? Love that nose one!

Occasional Aviator 7th Mar 2008 20:49

Cheers Karl, great shots!

KarlADrage 8th Mar 2008 06:06

Cheers all.

Davy07 - there are lots of people better equipped than I to tell you all about the HC3, but I believe it's based on the MH-47E airframe.

As for desktop pics, I'm afraid I'm reluctant to share them any bigger here. It's not unheard of for commercial organisations to make the most of such opportunities! Sorry.

Here's the rest:

"Ragtag" (I think)

Karl, Super photos. I hope your mate knows what his name means in Strine.

Those chinooks look almost new....

Rakshasa 8th Mar 2008 20:15

First time I've seen one of them airborne. :}

Those chinooks look almost new....
Nearly! "One careful lady owner, very low mileages, mostly kept garaged, sheeted over and on bricks. Heavy modification and restoration costs force necessarily high asking price but worth it to the true aficionado!"

ShyTorque 9th Mar 2008 17:37

Excellent pictures!

I first flew that very Gazelle, ZB625, on 23rd March 1984. :cool:

The Nr Fairy 9th Mar 2008 18:46

Yeah - and they haven't been able to get the pitot straight since :)

Mr-AEO 10th Mar 2008 10:44

Those fat tanks would make the aircraft great for Special Forces operations:}

The Helpful Stacker 10th Mar 2008 10:50

Those starry-eyed sneaky beaky types in their stolen hanger must be licking their lips.;)

crabbbo 10th Mar 2008 16:08

Nice to see. Just checked the logbook. I last flew that one in January 2005. has anyone passed my 140 hours on Mk yet?

Tigs2 10th Mar 2008 16:32

They do look very very clean! Well done the Gingers:ok:

Dan Gerous 14th Mar 2008 11:25

When these HC3's are made to HC2 standard will they be keeping the big tanks (and the black radome), or will they literally be identical to the HC2's?
