Thoughts with the Family.

Sooner we are out of that dump and leave them to it the better. Too many lives are being affected........ and for what?

RIP

RIP.
I was part of 903 last summer and know the strain that it can put everyone back home under. My heart felt condolences to the family.

Dan D'air 1st Mar 2008 16:26

RIP., Deepest condolences to the family of this man.

Perhaps the only thing that they will have to comfort them at this time is the level of national awareness of the sacrifice of HMF serving overseas due to Harry being in the news. Maybe HRH will have served his country more than he realises.

Beatriz Fontana 1st Mar 2008 17:37

RIP. Sincerest condolences to family, friends and colleagues.

Sadly, this event should focus some minds back to reality and not the sideshow of a member of royalty returning home.

Lurking123 2nd Mar 2008 15:52

What a day for Brize. Dealing with the Harry thing and, at the same time, having to manage the death of one of its own.

So sad, worked alot with the MT guys & girls in my time.

RIP

My thoughts are with the family and friends.

"Baz" Barwood

I only knew Baz from the couple of months that I have been out on 903. His passing away shocked everyone on ESS. The evening of the 29th will not be forgotten by the people on 903 who were there.
My heartfelt condolances to his family and friends.

RIP Mate, taken way before your time...

Totally gutted, top bloke, worked across the road from him when I was in 903. Very nice chap sad loss to all. I salute you my friend.

Chugalug2 2nd Mar 2008 19:45

I can only repeat what has already been posted, my deepest condolences to Sgt Barwood's family and comrades. RIP now, duty done.

RIP Good Buddy

What a complete waste.

Baz, was a tip top bloke.

I knew him personally as a mate and as a team member for RAF Brize Norton First Response.

I must have done 15 shifts with him in Swindon; he was an exceptional character. Nothing was too much trouble for him and his personality was infectious. I am absolutely gutted.

I spoke to him only a couple of weeks ago, just a day or two before his return to UK for a weeks R & R and he was really looking forward to it.

Enough now, He will Never be forgotten. Per Ardua Buddy.

petoprobe 2nd Mar 2008 20:06

I knew Baz for a short time he was certainly dedicated to the Royal Air Force. Another sad loss my thoughts are with his family.

endplay 2nd Mar 2008 20:55

I served with Baz when he was a gunner on 37 Sqn and later at Innsworth where he was CinC PTC's driver, (Joe French IIRC). His lovely wife worked with mine for a while and they were both genuinley good people. I heard the announcement tonight whilst out driving and had to pull over to catch my breath. A top bloke who will be sadly missed. My thoughts to Sharon and the girls.

Ambubird 2nd Mar 2008 21:41

Worked alongside Baz and the other boys from Brize 1st response at Swindon Ambulance station. You couldn't wish to meet a nicer, more helpfull & cheerful bloke. He obviously loved life, his wife and daughters and his work.
Baz will be greatly missed by everyone at Swindon station, RIP mate. x

Sincere condolences to Sharon and the two teenage daughters of whom Baz often spoke so fondly.
ASMT will never be the same without your presence Baz.
The news has struck us all hard. Who could have ever imagined that tragedy could have struck so close to home.
You will always be in the memories of those that worked closely with you and the capacity of our daily chores will always be a reminder to us of your legacy which was imbedded so firmly upon the section.
RIP Baz. Departed from us but never forgotten by those who knew him well.

melipona 3rd Mar 2008 10:28

Sincere condolences, Baz was well respected.

I knew Baz when he was a cpl on TCW MT and part-time GDT instructor in 99/00 . A good bloke and a very sad loss.

Cracking guy and another tragic loss. Deep condolences to family and colleagues.

glum 5th Mar 2008 17:11

Proof that you don't need to be a daring aircrew type to give your life serving the Air Force.

RIP fella, Brize will miss you.:D

KPax 7th Mar 2008 06:29

A fitting send off Baz yesterday, many a can were raised in the Toucan after. God speed.

Endplay - I think the button you are looking for has "Delete this Message" written on it!

SRENNAPS 28th Sep 2008 19:55

Endplay,

I don’t find your post insensitive at all; at least you knew him.

I am sure that his mates did not know whether to laugh or cry either under the circumstances, especially after the incident you recall in Germany.

The rest of you, rest assured that when one of your mates “dies” you maintain a sense of humour and you do it with what could be considered very sick jokes; it’s what keeps you going.

Al R 28th Sep 2008 20:06

I read that earlier, on The Sun website and burst out laughing.. I knew I shouldn't have, but I did. Baz - with your sense of humour, you would have done the same to us (I hope).

It didn't matter where you died.

Per Ardua.

taxydual 28th Sep 2008 20:08

Words fail me.

OK endplay, we are a fair country. Where did you get your information from?

The Coroner mentions a 'Toilet block'. An inadequate bomb shelter as it turned out.
My italics.

Your post, my fellow PPRuNer, has caused, an awful amount of upset.

Be afraid, be very afraid.

Lafyar Cokov 28th Sep 2008 20:14

Not wishing to sound like a self-imposed moderator etc - I thought I ought to explain why I feel the previous post should be deleted.

A sense of humour is - I absolutely agree - an essential facet in the current military, I hope when I go all my mates thoroughly take the piss out of me as I have done at the occasions where it has been sensible to the now many friends I have lost in the sand-pit in the last four years.

However posting possibly fairly personal details of a family man's death on a public website is - in my opinion - fairly ill advised. Imagine a child at his daughter's school picking this info up and then using it maliciously at school tomorrow. We can't censor the press, unfortunately - but we can show some respect oursleves!

airborne_artist 28th Sep 2008 20:33

LC - I'm with you, but it's on the Sun's website, so repeating on here is not really doing huge additional damage, even if it's unnecessary.

cooheed 28th Sep 2008 20:53

No need for it. The fact that it is on the scum website is irrelevant. I, and no doubt a few others, wouldn't mind meeting the 'leak'. The bringing up of this on what I thought was an educated site is shameful.

I have deleted my post as it appears to have caused offence. For the life of me I can't see why but beauty and whatever are in the eye of the beholder so I offer an unreserved apology to anyone I have inadvertently upset.
