C.4s at Lyneham
With thanks to all the crews at Lyneham who do such a stirling job a couple of shots of the J fleet carrying some additional lumps. Also the same day a very welcome visitor from our Wiltshire cousins at Boscombe Down. It was a pleasure to hear a pair of Speys going around the circuit.

Further to Rhino's note re: "a couple of shots of the J fleet carrying additional lumps".
Just to keep things honest, as I notice you RAF blokes (for which I have great respect) are almost as OPSEC obsessed :oh: as our Canadian Forces types, I have some relevant Public Knowledge info I'd like to add for information sake. ;) And because I like to be cheeky. :} On 7 Dec 2006 an export licence was granted by US Dept of State [DoS] (http://pmddtc.state.gov/docs/congnot...0/CN077_06.pdf ) 'for the upgrade of the UK MoD's existing lamp-based DIRCM Systems to the current laser-based version (Large Aircraft IR Counter Measures [LAIRCM] - some 250K Pounds [US$485,000] per aircraft conversion as noted by an RAF spokesman) to better protect aircraft deployed in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom'. :ooh: Therefore, it is expected that, along with RAF C-17s, strategic transports/tankers and Merlin HC3 Helicopters, the SF Hercules C1s and C3As, plus C-130Js will receive the LAIRCM upgrade for their existing DAS fit that includes Nemesis lamp-based DIRCM. The J's Nemesis fit has been confirmed in other threads on this forum, plus numerous British-based publications such as Air International, etc.:hmm: Plus, even the RAF's own equipment website, re: c4/c5, notes: 'The Defensive-Aids Suite [DAS] includes a missile warning system linked to the Directional InfraRed Countermeasures [DIRCM] system . . .' Cheers! :ok: PS: Anyone know how to copy info into this forum? Usually on most forums I can copy/paste, even from Microsoft Office Word 2007, but this having to type everything in again is a wee bit tiring. |
