AFPRB 2008 Rumours anyone?
|
There was a time when the military didn't used to worry too much about pay; the overall 'package' and lifestyle was more than enough compensation. The very fact that we are now reduced to bickering over tenths of a percent says a lot to me. Governments have consistently failed to acknowledge the importance of the military and other public services. No single pay award will recover that lost ground.

Will be below the rate of inflation, which would equate to a drop in pay
|
You would expect that he'd accept the AFPRB report in full, and award as suggested by the board. Anything less could backfire badly against Broon.
Much as I'd like everyone to get a decent pay rise, I hope he's stupid enough to be a tight @rse, and then suffer the backlash as the voters turn against him. |
I think Lurking said it all, close the thread now.
Now where did my psychological contract go ............ ? |
I hope he's stupid enough to be a tight @rse, and then suffer the backlash as the voters turn against him. Oops am I being too cynical? |
Best of luck - hope you get a big one (6 %).
That said, it's not the pay rise that is the problem - it's the back door raises in living expenses (SFA + PAYD) that really kill the deal. :* |
I heard that we were getting 20% across the board, no rises in SFA/SLA and that PAYD was to be sh1tcanned.........
Well it is a rumour network, isn't it? ;) I know, I'll get my coat. Taxi for one! |

Previous Pay rises
Much as I hate to admit it, the best payrise I when I was in the mob was just after GW1. We got a whopping rise which was something like 10 or 12%. God bless Maggie T!
|
If he can afford 50 million in aid to China (one of the richest countries in the world) And five hundred and something million to India (a growing economy and one of the emerging superpowers in the east) He can bloody well chuck us a few quid thats for sure and he can backdate the coppers pay rise whilst he at it, he is not going to get very far by treating his public service like naughty children.
|
Real inflation is running at more like 20%. As you all know the Government massage this figure by gradually removing everything that really matters (fuel costs, housing etc). I suspect that it won't be long before they remove the cost of food from the equation. How they calcualte our pay and the "X Factor" must change to take these real rises into effect. Another 2.5% rise would be a total piss take and the gap between wages and real cost of living+being in the military+stealth taxes+massaged methods of taking away from our allowances = Clucking big Gap.
I'm off on a career break as of 4 April anyway, still much increased wages for 4 days would be very handy! NGB |
Ogre
G'Day, I think you will find that Mrs T's pay rise was just after she came to power in 1979/80. It was a wopper and much appreciated.
3P:ok: |
The pay rise in 1979 was of the order of 35%. My pay went from £2,600 to £4,500 in the space of six weeks, as I also picked up an annual increment and started receiving flying training pay.
Beer was about 35p/pint :ok: |
Sorry Threeputt, Orge is right we did recieve a 12% pay rise just after GW1 to recognise our operational efforts of the past year!! Good for me too since I was promoted that year as well when promotion meant a decent pay rise not like in these post "Pay2000 days!"
That said, I believe you're right about the 35% pay rise in the late seventies to bring military pay back in line with our civilian counterparts, only I can't remember it as I was still at school :) Once a brat, always a brat..........................Trenchard's finest |
Payback time
What we need to do is band with the police. Now it is still illegal to rip songs from cd to an ipod in the UK.
http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post...l-at-last.html Now it has been reported that old GB has an iPod and put songs on it from the Beetles, The Rolling Stones to Coldplay and U2! http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/new...cle1582428.ece So anyone want to pass these details on to the police? Could be a way to bend his arm to pay us public servants what we are worth! :E |

hmmmmmmmmmmm http://www.macworld.co.uk/ipod-itune...pe=allchandate then add this http://www.macworld.co.uk/ipod-itune...pe=allchandate anyone think this could be useful to the Police and our cause? Now if it had been a link to photos of Brown giving Blair a good stuffing with Swiss Des looking on in a sweat then we might have something :} |
sorry mustflywillfly, didnt post the correct links, edited and fixed now

The 1979 pay rise was the amount advised by the AFPRB or its predecessor. The Callaghan govt said they would stage it over two years, as they had done in previous years, and the Thatcher-led Tory opposition said they'd implement it in one stage.
The election was on 4th May 1979. |
