MOD charges 15% on Fund Raising

I received the following in an E-mail today. After checking the date and making sure it wasn't 1st April.....Surely this isn't true?

MOD Defence Estates now charge 15% for all fundraising by forces charities on Defence Estates Land (mad but apparently true) - the monies go to the Treasury would you believe. This needs to be stopped. Please sign the petition at the link shown and pass this to all your chums acquaintances and even enemies it is important!!!
If it is....then there is a petition

Alas this has been happening for several years at a secret NW London airbase :*

Hey. Where did you think the council tax rebate was going to come from?

Signed.

How petty and spiteful. Covenant, what covenant?

A pity all you got in the tin was a coat button and an IOU for 100 Japanese yen.

How on earth do they police 15% of the take? If it wasn't a waste of a good lunch I'd be sick - I can't think of anything more revolting.

Just when I didn't think I had the capacity to be surprised at the stunning selfish attitude by our Lords and Masters I read this. Any journo's picked this up yet? Or Leaders of The Opposition?

Trouble was that a few years ago at a CinC Conference stn cdrs declared to CinC how much they had raised for the RAF Benevolunt Fund and RAFA. I guess these charities, and the Army and Navy too, will declare where large chunks of their funding come from.

So, next time you are at Chelsea Flower Show and tempted to sling a few coppers in a pot . . .

More money for MOD's coffers?

What next? On-base parking meters - with graduated charges for how close you park to your section?

Are we not starting to drift. Surely the issue is Defence Estates taking money from Charity. Who allowed such an immoral act?

You did.:}

Put another way, someone voted this government in and the treasury set the rules.

Out of interest, every UK registered charity is eligible for a 28% tax contribution from HM Treasury for each donation by a registered UK tax payer, via Gift Aid. This being the case, does anybody know if this can be used to offset against the 15% tax being talked about here?
As a regular mil fund raiser I would be very interested to hear if anybody has any experience or knowledge in this area. Please PM if you think it more appropriate. Thanks. :)
