Three RAF Servicemen Lost in Iraq

More terrible news. Sadly the BBC is reporting that 3 RAF servicemen have been killed in Iraq. My heart goes out to their families and friends!

As part of the RAF family, their tragic loss touches us all. I'd like to say how proud and grateful we all are of the RAF Regiment's work to protect us; their courage and skill are second to none and their contribution is absolutely vital. We'll all miss you guys; rest in peace.

Reast in Peace guys. My condolences to the families.

The BBC are reporting them as being 1 Sqn RAF Regt. I know people from every cap badge are losing their lives, but it still hurts when it's your own service. I spent a very happy time being wound up by the Rocks as a drunk holding monkey at St Mawgan.

MOD saying that 2 were from 1 Sqn RAF Regt and the other was from 504 RAuxAF Sqn.

RIP and condolences to the families.

Was only being told at the weekend how it was almost a miracle that so few casualties had been caused givent he amount of indirect fire being put on the camps and that sooner or later....

Weep you no more, sad fountains

Weep you no more, sad fountains;
What need you flow so fast?
Look how the snowy mountains
Heaven's sun doth gently waste.
But my sun's heavenly eyes
View not your weeping,
That now lies sleeping
Softly, now softly lies
Sleeping.

Sleep is a reconciling,
A rest that peace begets:
Doth not the sun rise smiling
When fair at even he sets?
Rest you then, rest, sad eyes,
Melt not in weeping,
While she lies sleeping
Softly, now softly lies
Sleeping.

Rest in peace now, duty done. May the strength to bear this be found by those who love them.

RAF Regt

What a terrible loss to the Regt, thoughts with family and friends at this time and Im sure the whole of the RAF will agree, in Iraq the RAF Regt have been outstanding and our fallen comrades a credit to the Royal Air Force.

Terrible news, as mentioned earlier, we feel the loss of all our guys and girls but when it’s your own cap badge, and fellow gunners that pain is a little more acute.

My thoughts and prayers, and those of my family are with the families, friends and comrades of these guys.

Rest in peace, we will remember them.

A Very Sad Loss

I have not been anywhere hot or sandy (a civilian now), and my only dealings with the R.A.F. Regiment, were during the cold war period. Although (as a British Army soldier) I got on very well with them, and found them to be a friendly and professional bunch, I often found that this view wasn't shared by many R.A.F. station personnel (many of you will remember those days, and know some of your reasons why).
BUT, when push came to shove, and things turned nasty in the sandpit, the rock apes have proved to everyone (especially to the other side, it seems), that they could indeed excel in their mission. I have heard tales from various people, of how once in theatre, the R.A.F. regiment transformed base security, and really took the offensive to the other side.
So whether regular or auxiliary (it makes no difference to me). I would like to add my gratitude for the stirling job these folks do. It seems that we are all very proud and grateful of the R.A.F. Regiment, and their ability to be a true force multiplier, as well as a morale booster.

RIP to some of the crème de la crème. Your families are in Barnstormer and his families thoughts.
