Where would we be without them....?

As some might suspect, my RAF logbook is quite old. Even has some ballooning in it...... or was that manned kites from Aldershot?

Anyway, I seem to remember - when the Alzheimer's lets me, or is it the BigMac disease? - collecting my post at infrequent intervals from HMS Odious, in the early 70s, between recurring detachments to SoufArmaa and 'The twenty-third slit trench past Imber Clump, near Stonehenge'. Along the way, I encountered these maidens serving their Sovereign in ways the recruiting posters didn't mention.

As the erstwhile starter of the Caption Comp thread, may I reserve this pic for a future challenge? About time the current one was judged, so restrain your humour for an imminent opportunity :ok:

They had Lance Corporals in those days?

FormerFlake 4th Feb 2007 14:47

Even back then WRAFs were happy to jump on some major wood outside the NAAFI

ORAC 4th Feb 2007 14:47

I'm sure they had a lot more than the Lance Corporals...... :E

:ooh:

I've seen pictures from the front in 1917 with better landscaping than that.

Did anyone else notice the Russian Delta Winged Interceptor crashing into the Nissen huts?

Pole dancing WAAFs from an earlier era, no doubt.

Then someone from the Air Monastery suggested that the pole should be vertical.....

"Gosh, yes please, that would be ever so jolly D", squeaked Section Officer Chlamidya Bush-Topiary, "My gels always enjoy nice, stiff, vertical shafts!"

Or....., Queen Bee regarding the canvas shrouded Elsans:

"What my girls need is a permanent erection"

It happened.

In 1965 ish the senior Waaf at Abingdon was a very nice lady called Squadron Officer Bobbie Stannard who was the Senior Admin Officer or of similar title.
Station Routine Orders came out one week declaring a scheduled parade which said "Wg Cdr DHM Chandler, Officer Commanding No 47 Sqn, will mount the Squadron Stannard "
