JCA Variant Selection

Can anyone tell me the logic behind the STOVL variant selection for JCA? Seems like the CV is far more capable... and surely a STOVL ac is going to be more costly?

Subject flogged to death in Future Carrier and other forums. On the other hand, none of the many experts participating here has been able to explain the decision in terms of pure logic.

Maybe its because the RN may not get the CV's and the RAF will use the STOVL version.

Never happen will it. Just ask the Buccaneer crews!!

Here's a thought (and a conspiracy theory so diverse that it could have originated in Harrods)

UK buy combined with USMC STOVL requirement means that STOVL version is viable.

No UK buy = no STOVL viability = USMC have to have CV version = USMC have to fly of USN Carriers = no reason for USMC to have organic fast air as USN can do the job with their own CV versions

:ooh:

OK I am bored...
