F/A-18F Super Hornet landing mishap after demo.
Can anyone shed some light here, about this mishap? :uhoh:

Yes it was at Pensicola NAS. The F18 burst a tyre on landing

Would like to have seen the previous 3 or 4 shots to see if he had lost his left tyre. Other than that who knows, maybe he just dropped it  :O

Typical, while I'm typing someone has the answer. Still, at least I had the right idea.

Third reply down on that page...
I can explain what happened. The Hornet blew the two tire within seconds of touch down. The crew kept it on the runway until it was safe to get it off. Once they did the lack of tires caused it to spin, almost flipping. As of last week it was still there. |
I once lost a right main in an F4 which left some rather large holes in the wing, and gave me what the Paras refer to as a "High Anal Pucker Factor".

Full sequence here. An impressive perfomance by the crew, I particularly like the way the GIB doesn't seem to move a muscle as the aircraft spins.

In the first five shots the GIB has "Assumed the Position", just in case.

Gotta love the announcer!! "Okay, there they are sliding around and coming to a stop." (No big deal attitude. :ok: ) |
I know a guy on ETPS currently doing his end of course PREVIEW on a F-18 at Pax, maybe he forgot to do all the chex after a quick impromptu aeros show for his final lateral stability investigation.

Thank you all guys, great links! :ok:

Gotta love the announcer!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D Good thing they build the undercarriage strong enough to take those controlled crashes that carrier types get up to. |
As the canopy swings open, the blue smoke drifts past in the humid Floridian air. The plucky pilot inhales, glad to be alive.
"Smell that" he retorts in a mixture of joy and surprise. "Smell it" replies his gutsy backseater; "I'm sitting in it !" Author: Anon c1916, Brooklands. Got coat already. Taxi outside. |
