PA Spine vs SA Pension Question

Long time viewer, first-timer poster!

The great advantage and lure of the PA Spine was that flying pay was removed and therefore all the (improved) pay was pensionable. Having reviewed my options and investigated in some depth I have found that the pension rate given in all the publications and from Glasgow is the Spec Aircrew rate. JSP754 states 'For RAF PAS OF2s, this will be the standard Specialist Aircrew (SA) representative rank based pension'. Have I missed something pretty basic and switching to PA just a change of title or, has something gone awry with the system.

Looking for any enlightenment on this subject.

There are two different pension rates, depending on whether you are on AFPS75 or AFPS05. The old system is the Spec Aircrew pension rate, but the new system is somewhat better - an extra 6 grand at 55 on your pension and 18 grand on the gratuity. As I alluded to on a previous post, if you've not changed to the new pension system, you'll lose out. There's a very good pensions calculator on the RAF web site: http://adastra.rafweb.raf.r.mil.uk/l...payandpers.htm
Because your pension will still be less than the maximum allowed by the current government, we can still use AVCs to top it up.

Finally worked through old paperwork and found the PA pension (old scheme) is based on a daily supplement to the SA rate. Still cannot find anywhere officially what that rate may be. Suspect around 50p / day. Will keep looking.

63 or 64p per day rings a bell.
