Aussie recruiters getting busy with the RAF.

Sitting back reading the Sunday rags and came across an article saying that our (Australian) defence force is looking at picking up some of the coming 11000 forced and voluntary redundancies from the RAF.

From the time spent semi-lurking on here, how can you guys possible afford to lose that many MORE? There’s LEAN and there there’s BARE tending towards EMPTY

What trades/specialisations are being disappeared? (or is it a mere thinning of the air-ship ranks:hmm: )

Dunno about that, but where are you going to get all those Airbus tanker guys from?
(The clue is in the name.....):ok:

Anyone got a good contact?

Forty year old ageing museum piece Vickers FunBus in Oxfordshire, sandy places, the Islas Malvinas.......

Or brand new state of the art A330 based an hour or so from Surfer's Paradise?

Hard choice, that.

A lot of RAF types might find it a bit of a culture shock. I spent 2 years with the RAAF and they take their fitness seriously! It is the only time I have spent in the military where sport/fitness was really considered part of the working day and sports kit working dress!! You have been warned.

defencejobs.gov.au is a good place to start. Use the link for overseas candidates, Sgt Stacey Ould deals with lateral recruitment. I am currently applying to join the RAAF, the procedure is long and drawn out but they are coming over to interview applicants in October.

Add in a chance to get a tan and some decent fish and chips for a change.

Old pal of mine transferred, got promoted at least once and reported "Even a bad day in Canberra is better than the best I ever had in London".

Merc's r us

HS and Beags are bang on
As one of the Mercenaries I had a chat recently and know we are looking for experienced Aircrew in certain fields, I believe some ground trades are being looked at as well but don't know enough on that to comment. If you wish to PM me and keep it on the QT I can fill you in on what I know.

Any idea if they (or the new zealanders) require Qualified Helicopter Crewman Instructors?

airborne_artist 3rd Oct 2006 08:30

And yet I met an RAF scuffer the other day with a distinct Oz accent. Mid 30's and has just moved over from the RAAF. Does the RAF have a better class of barrier than the RAAF?

k1rb5 3rd Oct 2006 18:00

Maybe the RAAF don't let their scuffers wine/dine/69 their k9's

Application.......... accepted.

Bear in mind that the Aussie defence force is facing a mass shortage across the board at the moment. Their long term recruitment campaigns have failed and the numbers of uniformed staff in all services is declining, the economy here is booming so there are plenty of options for people who don't fancy sitting in the defence force for years cleaning up other people's garbage in Iraq, Timor,The Solomons or droning about off our own northern borders making threatening hand gestures at smelly indon fishermen who come down here to rape our fisheries. The attraction just isn't there anymore when other things offer more money and more freedom. Are you a fat slob with a criminal record? No problem! The ADF recently announced that it will reduce it's selection criteria on things such as fitness and minor criminal offences, large tattoos and those with somewhat limited intelligence so you will want to have an extra sturdy padlock for your footlocker when you head out for dinner.
There has been quite a bit of negative press for the miltary also down in Australia. Botched repartiations of dead soldiers, bullying, troops moaning about crap equipment and having to buy their own gear to go into combat, "new" equipment that actually never makes it to service due to procurement stuff -ups etc etc. Half of it is a beat up but a large percentage of the public read it and believe the stuff and all this is occurring at a time when the ADF has realised that it is fast running out of miltary expertise when it needs to be increasing it's uniformed numbers.

So............ come on over, you will certainly get an interview. Bring your lonely planet guide to "Failed States of the Pacific Rim" to help find out more about your likely postings.

cheers

Vic

To get our applicants started off.....

Have a search on the abc.net.au website. Searchwords "ADF recruitment" will bring up a plethora of articles which suggests why the ADF is looking abroad.

Quick question, do the RAAF have a Spec aircrew/PAS system like us or is it all career spine?

Cheers

Maybe Samuel - but when you closed down the "Force" bit of your Air Force half the kiwis headed over here toot-sweet - I trained a few of them on the Pig. Nice blokes most of them, spoke quite good English and everything....
