Aviators FRI
 

The extant 30/50K FRI for aviators was introduced in Apr 02 for a 5 year block and due for review after 5 years - Apr 07? Do I interpret this correctly as meaning that the current FRI will cease at end of Mar 08 - ie. on completion of 5 full years? Is it likely to be continued - if so, for who etc?

Anyone with an informed insight? VMT

No I believe it runs out 31 Mar 07. There has been a thread about what will replace it - but nothing concrete.

The rumour is that it will target Career Spine Sqn Ldrs with a 6 figure sum!!:eek:

You mean the FRI that was stopped over a year ago for all but the select few....

All bar Harrier mates and S/L ME pilots I think.:rolleyes:

I think you mean RN Harrier mates who still received the FRI after Apr 1 05,whilst their RAF counterparts on the same Sqn flying the same aircraft did not.

All briefings received so far indicate that this FRI will go as planned on 31 Mar 07. I don't expect any further scheme unless PVR rates significantly change within the FAA at least.

£167000 FRI? That's the only way I can see to get a Net 6-figure sum. Otherwise it's only 5 figures in my book.

Looking at the AFPRB info I believe it ends on 31 Mar 07. So I miss it by 24 days - am I bothered? Darn straight I am - especially as I've just been told I'm back off to sea (after 5 years Front Line) as there's 'just no-one else to do it'. First time I've drafted my resignation letter in 10 1/2 happy years in the FAA. The message being sent by the FRI's withdrawal is that my (our?) generation is no longer worth retaining. I think this may backfire.

The subject appears to be confusing for all and divisive for some concerned - my sympathies to FJ Crab mates. I am concerned because it is all our interests to retain 'sufficient' aircrew to limit the burden on those attemtping to remain in the service, as TOBWARI implies. It soon becomes a spiral of doom......

It is my opinion that we are again approaching the same point in the 'cycle' that led to the introduction of the current FRI - overtasking and a bouyant and attractive commercial market.

For RN/RM members RNTM 15/02 dated 4 Feb 02 clearly states that 'FRI payments will be reviewed annually by the AFPRB, but the scheme is expected to run for for an initial period of 5 years' - i.e Mar 08.

If this was the case, it is very worring that the sceme may be withdrawn in the last year (prematurely?), when actually it could be argued that it needs to be extended for some shortage categories of aircrew.

According to the Poster, the FRI 2 was signed off by the Airforce Board last week extending it for another year at least. Additionally, retention of experience for PA is a concern for the Manning Bods (at least in Rotary) and they have advised the Board to assimilate all those who qualify. There's hope for me yet....

I'd want £200K Gross before I was even slightly tempted to stay for another 5 years.

You have denigraded and destroyed the confidence the OASC Board invested in you during their interview to put you in an RAF/RN ac on the front line - which was your desire!
At your OASC board, you were probably excited and sincere, and even more delighted when you made it. Most of your other mates also spawned through the selection system at the expense of other more able and dedicated, failed applicants, whose only desire was to fly, serve their country and not count the cost! I would sooner fly with 1 of them than 6 of you!
You've obviously forgotten what you promised at your attestation, when you willingly accepted the Queen's shilling, and now your loyalty, honesty, integrity and trust is looking fragile
So, just grab the money, run off to the airlines and get the f*ck out of our face!

I too would rather see you fly with 1 of the failed, untrained applicants than having to burden 6 of us with you. Hopefully they'd crash. I may well have been excited and keen at my OASC boarding but that was nearly 20 years ago. When can I stop being excited? Don't get me started on the desert.....

Anyway, £50k net would be pretty sweet to be honest :}
