VC10 - 40 years in Service.... Special Paint Scheme...

VC10 celebrates 40 years in service Source:MoD Defence Contracts BulletinUK - A special colour scheme has been designed to celebrate the fortieth year of continuous RAF service of the VC10. ‘Forty years of RAF service’ is emblazoned across the fin of XV104, a Vickers VC10 CMk1K, of 101 Squadron RAF Brize Norton. The Vickers VC10 entered service in 1966 and has seen active service in almost every major conflict since that date. A highly versatile and durable platform, it operates in air refuelling, passenger transport, freight and aero-medical roles and is a key asset in the RAF logistic capability. QUESTION>>> Does anyone have a photo of this anniversary paint scheme? GengisKhant:ok: |

Pity they'd robbed the cargo door from a shinier jet! (second link)

folding wings...., Re: Cargo Door yes, I see what you mean......, sort of spoils the presentation..., looks more like it was heading in for a deep strip and make-over at StA's... You would have thought that given the circumstances, that they could have routed the door through the BZN paint bay prior to fitting... mind you..., its all down to available £££££'s these days I guess!

Typical of MOD. Pay to have the kite painted, (nice idea). Shame it is going into a Major in a couple of months:rolleyes: and will be stripped.

I'd prefer BOAC colours.

I think BAE Systems paid for the paint-job. You may think it is unimaginative but the fin area is huge compared to those of the mini-jets - so a fancy design like some of the various 90th anniversary schemes currently on the go would be too difficult and expensive.
There is no way that a serviceable freight door would be removed for painting. It is far tool awkward to set-up to warrant removal. I'm sure that any difference in colour is caused by fading in the desert sun- the freight doors are not swapped around. Looking forward to 2016, perhaps AirTanker will pay for the 50th anniversary scheme to celebrate the imminent passage of FSTA through main gate - or Airbus to celebrate the imminent first flight of A400M ;) |
