God i hate the music.......okay okay...the flying was alright but why oh why do they have to add some s*** rock style music..it turns it all Top Gun ish......aagh...


A note to any prospective advert film maker out there......DONT USE ROCK MUSIC.........Although i dont think that " A Town called Malice " would work either

Great winging, Colonel, sir etc. What do YOU suggest. I have made a few similar videos in the past (very cr@p in comparison to this video) and I feel that rock music hits the spot.

Please enlighten us with your preferences.:)

I dunno. Ten, fifteen? But it has to be there. The rest of it requires another £100,000 worth of fuel for the aircrew to make pass... after pass... after pass over the camera position. It's genuinely quite tricksy to follow aircraft, I've done a bit of it.

The depressing thing about TV ads is that you generally end up paying about £500,000 to Scaatchi, Scaatchi, Scaatchi, Scaatchi and Scaatchi, or some other such useless bunch of, eh, consultant type people, then you get to spend about £1.50 producing the thing.

There was a great video I saw which was done to the tune of Madonna - push me. I thought it worked wonderfully!

And for what it's worth, I've seen that Swiss video with a different soundtrack before so it's probably just been added by whoever upped the movie.

'The Chase' video features excerpts from 'Les Chevaliers Du Ciel', a wonderfully cheesy French 'Top Gun'-style movie released last year. It's worth watching for the excellent aerial cinematography, and also the US female exchange pilot performing a striptease. :8

On the issue of the cost of camera mounts - surely some British ingenuity would overcome this predicament, i.e. the use of a camcorder and copious amounts of gaffer tape?

Chavaliers du Ciel caused quite a stir in the film and TV industry when it was produced in '04, because it's the first time since Top Gun that any production company has been willing to spend enough money to "gaffer tape" a camera onto a military aircraft. The cameras were mounted in repurposed fuel tanks and the camera system was manufactured, doubtless at pan-galactic expense, by Dassault Aviation.

My experience with this is limited to handholding in a helicopter, occasional Tyler mount stuff (typically used in American news-copters, and the like) and watching, in awe, from afar, as someone mounts a Wescam stabilised head on a Jetranger. The problem is not physically making it work, the problem is making it legal, insurable, and safe, especially on a high performance aircraft. I can't even stand a tripod on the floor of a helicopter without incurring a lot of paperwork.

The other problem is that if you are shooting video and you want to perform a high-G manouvre, it tends to pull the tape away from the head drum and give you a duff recording. Film cameras do better but it still needs an enclosure controlled for pressure, temperature and humidity.

Generally very tricky to do.

Sorry Bolk, but Swiss, whoever... that vid is awesome, prob the best I've ever seen and no rotary beast (not even the 'mighty AAC') is going to top it. Captures all that is great about a great selection of jets; Hornet, Mirage and F-5. Does it get any better?!

Harsh, but you must admit, ultimately fair.

Ok Spug....I grant you the pointy things are pretty impressive but the AAC vid made me smile as well. Reminded me of the feel good factor from working on the 'hydraulic palm tree'!

I do remember seeing some ridiculously impressive low level FJ video from somewhere sandy... shot by the French I think?
